Exclamation Immediate Discectomy (vs. Micro) and Fibromyalgia

I have some big worries about having a discectomy next Monday, 22DEC. I have Fibromyalgia. So I'm in constant pain anyway. But I ruptured L4 and without the narcotics and muscle relaxers - I can bear weight on my right leg. The sciatia runs down the back, spasms at the ankle, and crosses the top of the foot to the big toe.

I've had 2 other herniated discs since 1986 and managed to avoid surgery though had frequent trouble from rear-ends in '86, '94, '97, '99, and an assault in '01. This happened in Aug03 from a fall onto a tile floor when my shoe upper separated from the lower and threw me forward. This is far different painwise and the MRI shows leaking of the goo this time.

Anyone with a pain disease had this surgery? Anything done in advance to help? Post surgery? I have to return to work in 4 weeks. I travel, stand all day, and teach. Any reccommendations?

Also, am I choosing the wrong thing: discectomy over microdiscectomy since I heal so poorly anyway? Never had cutting surgery before.

Any response will be helpful. I see the doc in the morning for pre-op appt.
Many thanks.
Merry Christmas,
