Post Feels like Rubber Bands

I've had back pain for a little over a year very low on my spine with some involvement into the hips.
My doctor said it was probably an old muscle injury that had scarred over and was now giving me pain.
He prescribed Diclofenac which helped for awhile but has never really done away with the pain totally, and doesn't seem to be helping as well lately.
Other than the pain (when walking or turning over in my sleep mostly) the oddest sensation is as if someone took a very large rubber band and "twanged" it across my spinal column.
Should I be insisting on x-rays in a situation like mine or try to be better at doing exercises and go along with the diagnosis?
Thanks for any thoughts anyone may have!!!

Hi BJ -
If you are concerned about whether or not the diagnosis you were given is accurate, I would probably insist on a scan - an MRI would be a good one. If you have insurance it shoudn't really be a problem, and if something shows up on the film that your doctor didn't suspect before, all the better to have had it done.

Good luck to you -

Had right pain down butt/leg/toes for over 2 years.
MRI confirmed L5-S1 disc herniation
Discogram confirmed L5-S1 disc tear
Tried chiro, PT, epi steriod injections, more PT... to no avail
Insurance denied IDET
Had L5-S1 hemilaminectomy with microdiscectomy on 2/18/03 - now pain free!!!
L5-S1 hemilami w/ microdiscectomy 2/18/03 - right leg pain gone
Successful chiropractic care 2005-2011
Daily low back pain and HORRIBLE spasms since 2011
L5-S1 ALIF 6/30/12 - back pain is GONE!

Thanks much for the reply; I try so hard not to be a whiner that I sometimes delay medical treatment - but this is definitely chronic pain and you're right, it's not like insurance won't pick it up - I'm just probably a little too much of a trooper sometimes..

Hoosier -

Try to get a referral to a specialist or get the MRI done now. It took me over 6 months to get my regular doctor to take my pain seriously. He just kept throwing pain killers at me. When I was finally referred to an ortho surgeon, he also tossed pills at me for another few months. Finally got MRI, P/T and finally procedure.

Don't be so stoic! Get help before you really do damage. ...Sorry, I realize I am sounding like a mom! :>

Thanks NucleoGirl, but if you REALLY want to sound like my Mom you need to rag on me about giving the back exercises a fair try!
It's hard to do them when your back hurts, but supposedly if it is a muscle thing they would end up helping alot.
And don't worry, when you get to be my age it's nice to have an extra mom or two!
Thanks again,
