    Hi SHG:

Good morning to you. Wow another day at the office, good for you. Today I am supposed to start weaning myself from my corset. They told me to wear it awhile than take it off and then wear it awhile. Kind of like weaning yourself from medication. I made the trip to visit our grandchildren. I definitely had some discomfort but it was worth the trip. Life is too short and you have to have some enjoyment. I will really be glad when my leg and buttock pain goes away. Sometimes I think it will never go away but I am keeping hopeful about this and will continue to walk and go on with life. I am still planning on going back to work the week of Oct 13. I don't know if I will be able to put in the 50 hrs(probably not) that I normally work but they will work with me.

    Hello Christi,

I am glad to hear that you were able to make the trip. Wow, and you did 2/3 of the driving.. I would also have to get out of car to stretch as that is a long ride. Your grandchildren sound adorable. I bet they were sure happy to see you...

I still suffer with the pain in both legs and right side of buttock. I cannot sit in my recliner for long if I recline it. I have this pressure right below my scar and I really think it may be a screw. I had this pressure a couple of days after surgery and it has never left me. I also have pain in my left heel and this is a new pain as I never had this before. A friend on the boards said she also suffered and she had to use an ankle brace but suggested that I try an ace bandage first. It has helped me for the last two nights. The back pain that I have is not the same pain as before surgery but it has lessened. The only numbness is in my two little toes and I never had it in my leg. I did have some weakness prior to surgery in my right leg. My legs are still a little weak but that is also because I don't do the walking I should because of the swollen legs and feet. I go and see my primary tomorrow about the swelling. I also have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with the gastro for my anemia and reflux. I really pray that the pain that we both experience will go away.

    Take Care.

    Christi,

Thank you for the thoughtsÖyes, Iím glad to be back. I was thinking about you after you mentioned your grandkids and now that you mentioned your corset I thought of you even more. How about bringing your grandkids closer to you? We all know what itís like to be a kid and in that, we all had safety blankets, toys that comforted us, etc. Anyway, I know my brace for me as with many of you is extremely important and clearly your doing so well that itís time to as you said, wean off of it. Now for the game partÖspeak to your grandkids (age dependant) and have this be a game you can play with them. Maybe they need to be weaned off a bad habit or something. Anyway, Iím sure your creative and can come up with something. For others, maybe you want this to be something with your spouse, significant other, etc. Just another way of helping us be positive and helping us get closer with those we care about!

Iíll tell you this, I wanted to leave my office today at 11:30 or 12 and here it is at 12:25 and I donít want to leaveÖalthough I have to. Iím sure when you get back your mind will be so happy that youíll be feeling great there as well.

One of our portfolio managers had a fusion 4 years ago and just came up to say hello to me and touch base. The point of this is, hereís a guy who had this done to him and now plays tennis (he was nationally ranked in college) several times a week, runs everyday, etcÖmore inspiration from a positive outcome. Also, heís a guy who would never come to a website like this b/c heís too busy but at least thereís proof positive that there are many successes out there; we just donít hear them all.

    Tomorrow,

What do the MRIís and CTís show?

    Hi Shg:

Well this is the 2nd time I am trying to write this. It didn't take the first time.

How are you doing? Did you go to work today? I am so happy that you are doing so well. I woke up this morning at 3a.m. when my husband came to bed(he falls alseep on the couch) I had to get up and take a pill because the pain in my left leg and buttock was pretty sharp. I guess I had layed on that side for about 4 hours. My husband said that maybe we shouldn't go to Hershey, Pa on Oct. 8. I told him that I still wanted to go. We have a whole week to see how things go. I have had leg and buttock pain more so since Saturday, actually I have it every day, sometimes stronger than other times. I realize that it must be nerve pain and it is probably also aggravated by the weather. It seems to be worse when it is very humid. Today it was cold and I really felt it at times and other times not so bad.
We go to Hershey every year and I have really looked forward to going and then when we come back I want to go back to work. Those are my goals. Oct 16 is my appt with my surgeon. I am sure they will do xrays to see how the fusion is doing.
I just need to keep my head up. I look forward to your posts as they do encourage me.
By the way even if a fusion fails there are still rods and screws there to stabilize the back right. I would think that means the surgery worked anyways right?

    Hi Tomorrow:

How are you today? Did you go see the gastro today and what did he have to say? When is your next appt with the surgeon? Has he checked to see if you were fusing yet? Let me know.

    Thanks,

    Christi

    Hello Christi,

How are you today? I did in fact make it to the office yesterday and here I am again today and I am in the office right now. Itís keeping my mind going Iíll tell you that much. If I didnít have this, Iíd really lose it. I do however; have a little discomfort in my legs, which is coming from all the walking Iím doing. Itís a muscle acheÖthe kind you get after a great workout! It feels good and Iím just stretching it out. I feel great though.

Hershey, just see how you do over this weekend. What has the doctor said to you? You should call him and just talk to him.

If your fusion does not take and you have hardware in, it is NOT considered a success. The hardware has a greater chance of moving if thereís no solid fusion formed. The hardware is added support but it does not take the place of what is needed; a solid bony fusion! In your case lets not worry or think about this unless you have an MRI/CT that says we need to.

    Hello Christi & Shg,

Good Morning. Sorry I didn't post much yesterday as I had a very busy day with doctor's appointments. I did post and make an update last night on my own thread. I will try and sum it up real quick as I am very tired due to lack of sleep and nervousness.

Primary doc wants me to see vascular specialist and increased mg's on my water pills. He also ran another series of hemoglobin blood tests and wants to make sure that my high glucose has not developed into diabetes. Gastro found that I was bleeding internally and said my iron level is much to low. I have scheduled an endoscopy to first rule out bleeding ulcer. The nurse from my surgeon's office left me a message to call her but they had already closed when I came home. So I am waiting for office to open and I really think this call was about my CT Scan results. I will post after I talk with them.

I hope that you both have a great day.

    Hi again,

Magnet I am in the Butler/Bell***** area about an hour from you. My doctors are both in the Mansfield area. My biggest complaint is sciatica in my thigh, not so much back pain. Actually I've known about this for 6 years, I fell while skiing. At that time I had 1 cortizone injection & it didn't bother me again until July of this year. I think I aggravated things by overdoing it on gardening. Today I'm having my third injection, this time with X-Ray. The other doc did them blindly, straight in, no X-Ray. I didn't know there was an option. In the meantime I keep eating Vicodin & worry about becoming addicted to it. The new doc gave me some Neurontin which totally knocked me out for the day. Not good, I have 2 kids in soccer & I need to be able to function.

So, wish me luck! I'm hoping to see the Loudon***** Fair this weekend. Ya know it's the oldest free fair in Ohio. A little trivia for you all. Thanks for the info everyone.

    Signed,
Not as confused as I was a week ago. . .

    Hi SHG:

Sorry I haven't been on. I was very busy doing things. I am definitely going back to work at least 1 week from Monday. I had a good friend and customer who called me at home this morning. He has leased and bought several vehicles from me. He heard that I was still off work and so he called me at home and his lease on his van is up in a few months and he wants me to figure out a lease on a new Buick Rendezvous. He will wait for the info till I get back because he doesn't want to deal with anyone else.
I would have called work to get the info but they will probably ask me when I am coming back and I kind of want to avoid talking about going to Hershey, although they know I usually go every year. Anyway if they have some other salesperson work the numbers and my friend buys then I would have to split the deal with them. If it wasn't for Hershey I would go back to work on Monday. Do I still have nerve pain? yes but I may or may not have it for the rest of my life and life must go on. Will I be careful not to bend or twist? yes
I would even go back to work tomorrow if it wouldn''t cause a stink my going to Hershey next Wednesday. It may or may not cause a stink. I just didn't want to stir up the water. I don't know what to do. Originally I had planned on waiting till after Hershey since my boss had told me to wait till I felt good enough to go back.

Maybe you have some insight on this.C

    Hi Confused:

Have fun at the Loudon***** Fair. I have never gone to it but know some people who live out there and go every day. With three previous back surgeries, my pain was always in the left buttock and lower leg. I hardly ever had actual back pain but the pain always originated from the lower back. I fell too in 1997 and landed on my butt which caused it all. Hope you get well soon. I still would have an MRI or CT scan done to see what is causing your pain. If it is indeed a trapped nerve you will need to get that taken care of.There have been people who have suffered permanent damage by not taking care of this.

    Christi,

Glad to see your busy and I'm glad your going back...it seems as if your missed by all. How great is it to hear that? I should be a real motivator. Having us say it is one thing but when it hits home like that, it's great.

    I'm very happy for you.

    Hi Tomorrow:

Wow internal bleeding. Can they tell where it is coming from? Don't you just hate it. It is enough to have back surgery let alone something else comes up. Hope you have a great day today, keep us informed.

    Hi SHG:

I am still going to see how I do throughout the weekend to determine whether I go to Hershey or not. I really do want to go and I also will call the physical therapist and talk to him about it. Three weeks ago he said that he thought I would be ok to go. I suppose you are at work today. What do you do? investments? Aren't we fortunate that we don't have careers that involve heavy lifting. I know I couldn't go back right away if I had to lift things like that. I am even looking for a very lightweight vacuum cleaner.
So far my husband does the vacuuming. He hates it so he doesn't do it very often. It is because our vacuum doesn't do very well at picking up cat hair. No I will not get rid of the cat. Ha Ha. Do you have any indoor pets.
