Yesterday, I over did it...............

Yesterday, I think I over did it. I was 8 days post-op from a L5-S1
discetomy, and now this morning, I'm in pain again. I had been
doing my post-op back exercises, but not faithfully and I notice on
the paper it said people should be up to a 3 mile walk, 6 weeks
after surgery. So, yesterday, for a change, I used a stationary
bike for a mile and then later on, went to the mailbox, which is
approx. 2-3tenth of mile and last night I started to feel the pain.
Last night, my husband was snoring, so I slept some on the couch,
before going to bed in my daughter's bed, since she was in ours.
I feel like crap so bad today-I hope my doctor isn't mad at me for
doing this. But what do you do, when you're tired of feeling tired,
and all I was trying to do was get myself motivated and feeling
energize. What a dumb idea! Oh well, I going to go take
so pain pills and do absolutely nothing today. I don't know what
I was thinking yesterday. I guess I wasn't.
Please keep me in your prayers, because I so need them. Thanks
Sorry this is long-just had to vent.......................

Yes, I think you overdid it! You are only 8 DAYS post op and need to give your body a chance to heal! This surgery can take months to recover from and you won't help your recovery by pushing yourself. I know it's hard to have restrictions on what you can and cannot do. Try to be patient with yourself and increase your exercise slowly over a couple of months, not days.

Re: Yesterday, I over did it...............

Oh how I remember the pain from when I did that. Last year I had a discectomy/lamy and I did my waking and so forth but then I decided to get a stationary bike and do that when the weather started getting crappy cause I wasn't going to walk in the snow. Well, the first time on the bike about 3-4 weeks after surgery, I got on it for about 1 minute or maybe two. But I pedaled constistantly and holy crap! I couldn't move for about 3-4 days. My muscles and nerves and whatever else were screaming at me. I dont' know if it was the ones they cut and then pedaling for a minute or two straight but it was HELL! I know what you mean. I'm sure you didn't do anything bad but it seems like it.
Unfortunetly my surgery didn't work and I will be going for a fusion in two weeks but good luck to you and with your recovery. Just slowly get yourself into doing things like that, remember, don't over do it!
