Exclamation HELP! What is my Problem?

Lately if I lay on the floor on my stomach for a while then try to get up I cant. My lower back will hurt EXTREMELY bad and I cant seem to straighten up. Im only 32 yrs old. Ive had no accident where I hurt my back or anything. One time I was completely immobilized, I couldnt stand up. I had to lay flat on my back with a heating pad and pain pills. Does anyone know what this is or why its happening??

Re: HELP! What is my Problem?

Hi there,
It could be a number of different things. Have you seen a doctor? How long has this been bothering you? I would suggest making an appt with your physician and ask for either an MRI or CT scan. In the meantime I would suggest that you don't lay directly on your stomach. It helps a whole lot if you put a pillow in between your legs by your knees and I find with all my back problems it also helps to kinda cuddle a pillow in your arms so that you are not laying directly on your stomach, it kinda props you up so that you are more on your side. But I would definitly seek medical advice and be sure to get a test done and do not over do it, be very carefull until you know what this may be. Take care and good luck. Kristy.

Re: HELP! What is my Problem?

Sounds like you ahve a lower back problem. Have you spoken to a GP or PT in relation to the problem. It may be something that can be manged with an appropriate PT exercise program that focuses on developing back and stomacch muscles to support your spine. You may need to see a GP with the view to getting a CT acan or MTRI to ensutre that you do not have a serious back promlem prior to starting an exercise program

After you get all the films in hand get a referral to an orthopedic spine specialist.

Re: HELP! What is my Problem?

I started to have this same problem about a yr & 1/2 ago- also only 34 yrs old- couldn't think of what caused it either- moved some furniture & my back ached alittle afterward but this didn't start for awhile afterward w/the really bad pain where I couldn't even sit up if lying down. Dr thought it was a pinched nerve so spent months seeing a chiropractor & then PT. Finally when nothing was working I asked my dr to get an mri for me (already had an xray & nothing really showed). Once the mri came back it showed I had degenerative disc disease which finally made sense. Saw a neurosurgeon & he said PT would do nothing for me. Sent me to a pain management dr since other then fusion surgery nothing would help the problem. The pain mngmt dr has had me on pain meds, muscle relaxers, sleep pills. Had facet joint injections which did nothing to releave the pain. Have tried Yoga, Tai Chi- nothing works. Have been on pain meds now for about 9 mths & had enough- makes the pain go away when you are taking it & I can sleep but if you don't take them (like if you want to have a couple of drinks w/dinner or something) you are back in awful pain. Have appts to see the neurosurgeon again to discuss surgery & also an orthopeadic surgeon for a second opion. My advise would be to get an MRI as soon as possible- I waited at least 6 mths in pain before someone actually found out what it was. Good luck w/everything & hope it turns out better then mine so far.
