2 level fusion......Discogram....Help!

Hi guys
I'm scheduled for a discogram and the doc says if it's like he expects, probably a two level fusion at L4/L5/S1. My questions are How bad is the discogram? I'm hearing pretty painful. Also can anyone share there experiences, Good or Bad, with me on this level fusions?
It will be a TLIF.
Any advise is great
Thanks Dave

Thumbs up Re: 2 level fusion......Discogram....Help!

I've Had The Same Fusion You Are Having. The Only Advise I Can Give Is Fight To Get Better!! If This Is Your First Surgery Healing Will Take Awhile. You Will Where A Brace For Awhile, then You Will Slowly Get Out Of It. The Best Advice Is Aqua Therapy And Stick With It. No Gravity!! Moving Will Be Easier. Also Less Activity Means Less Calorie Burning!!!!! Try To Eat Smart Or You Will Face Weight Gain. If You Are Scared Of Surgery It's Natural , But Keep Your Head Up And Everything Will Be Alright!!!!!!

Good Luck

Re: 2 level fusion......Discogram....Help!

Quietcook and corcerned2
Thanks for the words of comfort! This is actually my third surgery. I had a discectomy and laminectomy done on L5/S1 in 2001
and a discectomty/laminectomy in 2002 also L5/S1
L5/S1 is so badly degenerated that we know that is a problem, but L4/L5 has an Anular tear and a buldge. So if it's only L5/S1 on the discogram he said that An artificial disc is a possibility. But if L4 is pain producer also, 2 level Fusion TLIF is all we can do.
CONCERNED2.... How post op are you? how do you feel? When does pain start to let up after surgery?
How long are you in that hard brace? I heard about 3 months. I havent gotten that far with my doc yet.
Thanks I'll let you know how it goes!!

Re: 2 level fusion......Discogram....Help!

My Surgery Was In 2003. Until The Last 6 Months I Was Doing So So. Now I'm Going Down Hill. I'm Facing 4th Surgery, because My L3 Is Moving. For Me I'm A Fighter,so Pain Is Always There. My Tricks For Relief Are Hot Whirlpool Bath, relax Laying Down With My Meds. Your In The Brace Until You Feel Strong Enough.remember When You Have The Brace On You Are Not Using Your Muscles. So Ween Your Self Off Slowly. Hopefully You Have Good Results. It's The Luck Of The Dice!!!!!!!! See Ya
