HELP!! I may have done it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 2 weeks post op from my second laminectomy/discectomy at L5-S1 in the last 3 months, due obviously to reherniation. Anyway, as I was crawling into bed on Wednesday, I felt a pop in my lower back followed by spasms with the immediate return of more severe leg pain. I reherniated my disc again didn't I???? How long do I have to wait for another MRI? Also, the next step is fusion- How bad is that? I am only 32 so should I hold off on fusion if I need it?? Thanks for any help that may be provided.

I would call the doctor, due to the pop and leg pain. It may be muscle related, as a muscle can spasm hitting hte nerve, or it may be reherniated. At any rate, I would call.

i just had another MRI and am 9 mons post microdisectomy becaue he wanted to see if I'd rehernatied due to continued leg pain. My MRI was clean. I didn't want to pay for the MRI but I was a mess of nerves wondering if I'd reherniated adn I couldn't live like that, wondering, worrying.

I would call the doctor. If he feels an MRI is needed, I'm sure he'll order it. Best to talk to doctor and alleviate your worries which are just gonna make you tense and hurt more.

Call your doctor immediately and INSIST on evaluation. After two laminectomies you are at high risk for further herniation and will need a fusion. My dr. ignored my cries for help after my 2nd lami and I ended up with fusion 6 months later....the damage had been done and I have permanent numbness and weakness in my right leg.

2 lami's, 3 fusions
bone spur removal
cerv. fusion, 1 level
morphine pump

Agree with Ladybird - first thing is to call the doc. An x-ray may show it is a tendon or muscle versus herniation, but certainly herniation is possible. I has a total rupture only 5 months after the first discectomy. If it is a reherniation, you may want to ask about the ADR, artifical disc replacements that have been approved by the FDA. Unfortunately I had already had fusions when they were approved and had hopes they would begin doing with with fusions when I needed the next round. They have now begun that at least in trials, but I would not have qualified due to other problems. So, if you've not have massive fusions like I have, the ADR may well be a better option for you, especially at such a young age.

You didn't say anything about your doc, but I recommend that whether you prefer an ortho or a neuro, that you use one who is a spine specialist instead of general ortho or neuro.

Best wishes, and hope you will let us know what you learn when you call the doc.
