Riding a bike?

Hubby had laminectomy surgery Dec 16th 2004 L-3 L-4. Then 2 1/2 months ago he had knee surgery.. The back is better but the knee is still not doing so good. The doc says he is not sure if the knee pain is coming from nerve damage from the compressed nerves in the back or what. He says to quote " this is as good as it will get I think you'll learn to live with it!"
Hubby thinks riding a bike will be good excercise for the knee. The surgeon says it won't do any harm and might help.
Well I think riding a bike is a bad idea after this type of back problem. Hubby is 47 and a was in good condition all but this back and knee problem. Which started back in sept 2004 when he fell going down a boat ramp and landed hard which ruptered the disc in his back which required the surgery. and the knee docs say was not on account of the fall. they also found Arthritus in his hips ,spine and knees. Quite bad at that..
My queastion is do you think riding a bike would do harm again to the back I think it would but hubby wants to try it. And I'm so worried that it will reinjure the back or agravate it. Opinions wanted ty.

Re: Riding a bike?

no idea about the knee but you said doc that advised to do the bike was the knee doc so I assume that's ok.

My Dr DID suggest bike riding after my double lami ( 6 weeks post op ) however he suggested a stationary bike rather than a real one.
