well i went to see anouther doc the other day and he seems to think it could be an annular tear or si joint or something else basiclly he wants to give me a lumbar epidural and i dont know wheyer to go through with it what is the purpose of it as i am thinking if it is for pain relief then how is he going to find out where my pain is if i dont have any once the epidural takes it away i really dont know what a epidural is used for is it for pain relief or diognosing and should i go through with it or tell him id rather have a area done bit by bit like say a si joint injection first then if that dont tell us nothing we know to look somewhere else like a discgram

If it were the spine, I would say not to the shot, but it is less harmful in the SI joint. Make sure that he uses a flouroscopy and sedation. It could be a soft tissue problem, a torn ligament. Two years later and I still have a torn ligament.

Ask if you can get a CT scan with dye to see if the inflammation in in the SI joint. It is spendy but worth it.

Epidurals are done in an attempt to reduce inflamation thereby alleviating pain (if the pain is caused by inflamation) as to how it will help determine where your pain is, IF the pain stops or lessens, obviously this is the area causing you pain. It is primarily used as a diagnostic tool to help zero in on your problem. But of course if it brings you relief it is also considered to be therapeutic.
Most likely he WILL do different areas "bit by bit" he'll not go in and inject you everywhere at once

please keep us posted on how your doing & Good Luck to you
