HELP........Calf Pain/Cramps 1 week after surgery

I am 8 days post op. I had 2 cages and 3 screws put in. Was doing great until Saturday, then started getting these horrible pains in my right leg. Feels like a really bad charlie horse in my calf. Has anyone had this or is this normal after surgery. I'm up and around alot, walking have even been to the mall for an hour or so. My husband thinks I'm doing too much. Could this be true? Any help would be appreciated.

You might call your surgeon and ask him/her to prescribe you some Flexeril or some other muscle relaxant.

Since you are only 8 days out of surgery, you should be careful, but you might look into massage from a LMT for the spasm areas, warning them to stay away from the incision site (until a month after surgery, at least).

You need to call your surgeon ASAP! You might be having a DVT which is a life threatening condition. Even though you have been active being so soon after surgery there is a possibity that it occured in the hospital. Please do not delay in calling your md to have this checked.

Good luck!

I am experiencing the same thing, though for me it started about two and a half weeks after my continues to be bad (now I am four weeks post-op) My surgeon thinks it will go away on it's own, but I have my doubts about that...

I had the exact same thing about one week after my microdiscectomy. It went away after about 2 1/2 months ( and several weeks of physical therapy.) I think that stretching the calf muscles is what finally stopped the cramp. I would definitely call your doctor before you try any stretching or anything else just be sure that everything is okay.

Hopefully You Get Better, But I've Had 2 Surgeries And Still The Same. Walking At The Mall Sounds Good ,but Be Careful Not To Do Too Much!!!! Go Try To Do Aqua Therapy. Also streching you leg muscles are important.

Good Luck!!!!!!!
