Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

Good morning all.

No worse for wear from the trip - my toes are feeling it from all the sitting but life goes on. I'm trying the elavil for a few nights to see if it helps the toes-it seemed to help with the nerve pain a few weeks post op so I'll experiment.....
you would think between all the drugs we have that we could find a suitable cocktail!!!

The travel was certainly easier than pre-surgery (sitting up in the car used to give me upper back spasms too). We'd like to go to A/C next month for a few days and that's a 4-5 hour trip so we'll see how long it takes to recover from this....

My incision is almost closed....one of my shirts has a 40% nylon blend so maybe that wasn't helping; when I took that shirt out of rotation the itching/sweating stopped and it closed up within a few days!

Glad you had fun this weekend Carol. Did you feel "normal" again?

Okie, I assume they told you to monitor your temperature? I can't believe they aren't more concerned with it.

Have a good day all, talk to you tomorrow! Okie hope you can stay cool Carol and I will try to sympathize with you!!

Good Morning Girls,
Still on a pretty good drunk, I would say that the Lyrica isnot setting too good for me, I didn't take the neurontin last night, so wasn't as bad out of it, but still I slept way too much and I'm still not got a straight head. You're right Sue, we should be able to find the right combo, still will try something else tonight and see. We will make the trip to Vegas Mon. and something better be done or else.
So glad your trip went well Sue, you do find different hurts than before though.
Sorry girls, It's late, I have to get in shower to try to get this out of me and food in me. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Has been nice walking weather 80 +, am loving that anyway.

Oh Okie, I know exactly what you mean. I have been able to up my dose gradually over the past week & am tolerating it much better. I know I sleep better with it. I'm also noticing that I'm eating more, my appetite had really dropped off after surgery. Will have to walk more. Still looking into accupunture, my therapist recommends reflexology. She says it's something you can learn to do yourself.

I'm at work so better go, send us some warm weather. I hear we're supposed to get 3-6 inches of white stuff tonight. Yuck!

Good Morning Girls,
Well,I couldn't take it, I hated the way that Lyrica made me feel, I was truly on a 2 day drunk, and now know what you meant Carol, there is no cutting this capsule in half. I just didn't take any yesterday and I didn't sleep last night but I have my own head today, I just don't think I can tolarate it, not sure. Hope your toes are doing Ok Sue, I find when I sit too much, my feet burn more than usual, maybe your trip made your toes worse.Don't work too hard Carol, keep up the spirts girls, Don't know what I'd do without you right now. Got to get in shower, try to suffer through today, hopefully sleep tonight and watch a little football tomorrow. Thanks Girls.................Tomorrow.

Morning all

The elavil seems to help with the toe/foot pain but all I want to do is sleep and it takes a few hours to get moving in the morning - sound familiar girls??? I'm also going to start the vicoden again for the lower back pain ~sigh~ if it doesn't loosen up after "the hill" (if my quads and glutes kick in, my lower back feels better..)

OKie good luck on your appointment Monday and hope the ride isn't too bad for you.

Carol, I think the massage therapist tried reflexology on me before surgery but honestly I don't know if it helped as my whole body was one big spasm. She might have just learned the stuff and was practicing, but I never object to a foot rub!

Time to take the hill, before it rains/snows again....

Have a good weekend all!

Getting ready for the big storm here, calling for 6-10" now. Yesterday I had to take my mom to the dr. She can't bear any weight on her right leg & has to use a walker. This came on over a few days. X-rays showed something on her femur. Dr. wants a bonescan since she can't have an MRI because of a pacemaker. I just can't deal with any more stress right now. She's 80 years old & I have a brother that's closeby, but the responsibility always falls on the daughter, right? We've been really lucky in that she has managed well on her own. Just hoping this turns out to be nothing.

Sure glad I can ramble to you guys. Kinda funny this is the most visited post, isn't it? Guess somebody finds our conversation interesting. Maybe we could write a book. I can do the illustrations. I need a job change right now. Ha Ha- have a good day ladies.

Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

Good morning all.

Took 1 vicoden yesterday at 4 then sat at the kitchen table for 4 hours studying (not sure much of it sank in with the buzz it gave me.. ) then 1/2 an elavil at bedtime and slept from 9 til 7. My toes DO feel a lot better so guess if I can manage with it at nighttime instead of what you girls have to take during the day I should be happy.

How did you sleep Okie? Are you totally giving up on the lyrica? Hang in there, you're bound to find something that works....Did you say you took elavil before?

Yes Carol, I totally understand about the daughters...I have 4 brothers who lived within 9 miles of my mother and she moved 50 miles to be closer to the 2 daughters as she saw more of us than she saw of them....We'll pray the bonescan comes back clean; can't imagine anyone throwing anything else at me, in addition to work....

Not sure what I could offer on the book, I was a diaper-maker so I'd have to think about what my contribution would be.... How about you Okie???

Headed for a Super Bowl party later; it's at the neighbors so I can sneak out at half time if I need to... Take care all!

Good Morning Girls,
Well you made me laugh anyway Carol, not sure I could help on a book, I know I lived WAY too hard of a life and that's why I'm a mess now,OK GIRLS, I know what you are thinking, I Rode too much in Rodeo's and worked hard labor jobs until moving here 17 years ago, this job was sissy compared to others. I do feel for you Carol, My Mom is 82 and in MUCH better health than me, no pills of any kind and feels great, I'm very jealous of her, but will keep fingers crossed, all goes well with your Mom.
You are lucky on your pills Susie, hope my pain will soon be over, NO More Lyrica for me and Elavil was same way, I still take Robaxin occasionaly during day and percocet as needed, usually 2 a day and then 1/2 neurontin and 1 Soma at bedtime.
I was SOO hot during walk yesterday...SORRY Better leave early today before it reaches 80, then just me and Hubby for the game, rest early then Vegas in the morning Talk to you guys sometime Tue. or Wed. Hope you are both as pain free as possible, please stay warm...Yea SEAHAWKS.......... I slept 10 hours last night, sure needed it as much as I need this post to talk to you. Have a good couple of days.

Good luck today Okie-will be thinking about you. School's are closed here for a snowday. Will have to scramble and ship the kids off to the other grandma's for the day. We got 5 or 6", but the drifting is the worst. Keep warm Susie!

Still taking the Lyrica, but I've gained at least 5 pounds. I got on the scale last night, bad idea right before pigging out during the game! Oh well, we'll see if this makes a big enough difference to where it's worth it. More later . . .

Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

We dodged any accumulation - got an inch but it's cold and windy. No outside walks for a few days!

Made a trip in to see the plant doctor today, it's an every 30 day thing; since I'm not yet fused they will stay off my case for another month...still in no hurry to get back there.

Okie hope you're feeling some relief.

Went to a Super Bowl party last night; I stood for most of the game (a lot more comfy than sitting) and of course ate a lot...I was happy with the outcome, sorry Okie! Most of the room rooted for the Steelers, but then we're east of the Mississippi!

I think I found a decent drug mix for me, 1/2 elavil at bedtime and 1/2 a vicoden as needed. My toes would normally be ice cold with this weather change but they are pretty good for the time being.

My son totaled his car last night, he's darn lucky as he hit a rock culvert and it spun the car around and into the ditch. KIDS, he's 27 but maybe he learned something about not getting enough sleep and driving too fast....

Talk to you all tomorrow!

Good Morning Girls,
Glad you guys have found your drug mixture, weight gain is OK Carol if it helps, I just had to quit it after only 2 days, Lyrica that is, your Sue sounds more workable. What a game, glad you guys were happy, I think the Texas Tech referee's were there, oh well, it's just a game and yes I do a lot more things standing up as well Sue.
AGAIN, NO HELP, I spent more time filling out paperwork than he spent time with me. Oh OUR office isn't set up to do any injections, HE ASKED ME what I thought was wrong, and then agreed, DAMN I spent a whole day and a tank of expensive gas for me to tell him the problem. I give up, going to suck it up, go back to work, guess it's in my head, nothing is wrong. Will call my boss this week and set up time to go back to work.
Wind is blowing, so hard to walk in, but it's warm. Got to go, talk to you tomorrow, stay warm.

Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

Okie, I'm sorry you didn't get any answers or relief. That's so frustrating.

My mother didn't get good results from a bone scan. They told us yesterday that it's a tumor. That is all we know, will see a specialist tomorrow. I can't believe we are going thru this again. I lost my dad to melanoma. This is a horrible path to go down again. My kids have lost 2 grandparents in 3 years. We lost my husband's grandmother before Christmas. I just keep doing laundry & cleaning and hoping for the best.

Susie, what did the doc say about you going back to work? Are either of you doing much in the way of housework yet? I'm still afraid to do much vaccuming. I had to keep the woodburner going yesterday & I can really feel it today. Our pilot went out on the furnace or I wouldn;t have bothered. We had 12 this morning, winter is here with a vengeance.

Here's hoping for a pain-free day soon.

Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

Carol. sorry to hear that news - yes all you can do is hope for the best. We'll pray everything is okay.

I can just imagine your frustration Okie. What's your next step? (The one before going back to work?)

I get a CAT scan tomorrow; they saw a calcification in my abdominal aorta on my original xray when this back thing started, so had a cat scan the same day as my MRI. That problem was minor HOWEVER they saw lesions on my liver so now they want to check that again. Supposedly lots of people have them and they never cause any harm. That's one big reason I'm avoiding meds if at all possible....

I am starting to take over the kitchen duties but most other stuff still hurts my back too much. Hubby is still laid off so he does the bulk of the housework. I wash my good clothes myself now (god love my husband he's been so great thru all this) but he packs the washer pretty full

I see the ortho surgeon next Monday; the NS won't release me before June 1. If I don't have a specific job to return to, not taking any chances - last time I was on "light duty" they had me on a ladder, loosening bolts and reaching over my head for 10 hours. SOOOO, I'm in no hurry.

Spent a good part of the day shopping and I feel pretty good; my feet hurt a little but nothing like they did. I can live with this much pain so if all it takes is 1/2 elavil I should be happy after reading everyone else's nightmares with their meds.

Take care all, we'll be sending positive vibes your way Carol....

Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

Good Morning Girls,
Carol, I'm so sorry about your Mom, We will pray for your family. I'm in many ways lucky that my Mom is so healthy, she's the only one my Hubby and I have left, the others died many years ago, no matter when it's hard, feel for your kids, hard to lose grandparents. In other answers, I do the vaccuming,BUT only with my old back brace on, the elastic waist one that is, and it does help, but other housework is a lot less now days. I used to have the cleanest house in the state, not important anymore.
I'm not going to worry about anything else anymore, will work till I drop. Long Term Disability doesn't want to pay me anymore, Social Security is making filing too hard, so will give up the GOOD paycheck of LTD and go back to work and take lots of pills I guess, not good for the liver I'm sure, but not leaving me with a choice here. That sounds harsh but tired of fighting with everyone on everything. I've been off work for 1 year in April, with these 2 surgeries, so ready to do something, even if wrong.
Hope everything works out Sue with your tests, at least they are watching you and seem to care. My job has no light duty but my boss said he would make sure I don't have to do anything I can't handle, I'll put him to the test. I can't imagine having my arms above my head for ten minutes although all day. Money makes you do weird things though, may give it up and move back to Okla. and live on my savings if this keeps up, but my saving wouldn't last long the way this world is going right now.
Must get something done, even if wrong, my weather has been HOT 88 degrees yesterday, but windy, hope you girls stay warm.

Re: 4 weeks;fusion..very happy..ALMOST SCARE

Good morning all...

Ended up having an ultrasound instead of CT scan; it shows the lesions better than the ct anyway plus cheaper AND better on the body. I have plain ol' hemangiomas so will go back every 6 months to get them checked for the next few years. I need a good understanding of anatomy & physiology and disease processes for a coding career, funny how when I first read the physiology books not much sunk in until now when I have the issues....

Carol, hope your mom's doctor visit goes as well as mine; we'll be thinking of and praying for you and your family.

When do you start back to work Okie? Is your stomach any better or are you trying to ignore it now? Yes, money makes us do things that are NOT good for our bodies; sounds like both of us have abused our bodies - grew up on a dairy farm, fell off /bucked off horses more times than I'd like to admit, carried 100 pound feed bags on my shoulder, was a kickboxing nut the last few years (that most likely finished my back off) plus my last job; I didn't believe it when people told me it would catch up with me.

We got a few inches of snow but at least it's fairly warm today (34) with NO wind. They are watching for a nor'easter for the weekend. I'm ready for April to get here.

Take care all, have a good weekend.
