first physio session- is this normal?

Ok, so I have just got home from my first physio session 8 weeks post op microdiscectomy. I have been doing gentle stretching excersises since day one post op, but no bending, twisting or slouching. The first thing I have to do is bend forward, bend backwards and twist from side to side, then sit in a chair and slouch. Physio says I am stiff in the back .I say that this is because I havent done any of these things since op. Then I have to raise leg onto chair to tie shoelaces, and am told to bend my back, not keep it straight like I have been doing for last 8 weeks.Sat on physio ball and lifted each leg off the ground, tried not to fall off. I tell her it hurts and am told thats because I havent been doing it for 8 weeks. Now I have to go on all fours and flex spine into arch and down etc. Physio says this will hurt my back for a while as The disc ( whats left of it) needs to move to be able to heal. I am supposed to do these three times a day.It did not hurt much to do the excersises but my back is sore now and my butt is tingling!! I am supposed to go back on Thursday for more, do I go or run for the hills? ( Oh that I could). Any advise please.

I would do NONE of those things without checking with the doctor first! Those exercises sound a bit strenuous and dangerous to me.

Thanks Carol, thats what I thought. Didnt like to say anything at the time because I assumed that the physio knows what she's doing. My right leg pain is worse now, Im really annoyed because this last week has been almost pain free.

Id say go for it, they should be trained to know what there doing. Im starting again myself and I think Im more scared then anything. When I get tense my back hurts more. But We have to learn to move normal again if we ever want to get better.

Thats exactly how I feel. I'm terrified of doing anything.I'm managing to walk 2 miles a day, but apparantly thats not enough flexability. I guess I'll sleep on it and see how sore I am tomorrow. I just dont want to do anything wrong.
    Thanks,
    Cally
