Back relief, Doans pills, magnesium ...

I hurt my back on Saturday. The pain was excruciating!

... let me back up. Friday night I quit taking a number of minerals and vitamins I was taking to help me sleep. I quit for they were giving me numerous other problems.

I needed something to ease this awful pain that I had in my back from working in the flower garden on Sat. I finally resorted to go to the store to look at those Doan's pills that are advertised. I noticed that the active ingred. was magnesium. Well, magnesium is one of the things I quit taking the night before I hurt my back. Today I bought some cheap magnesium, 150 for $3 as opposed to 30 for $5+. Within an hour my back pain was gone and has not returned. I was down to where I could hardly get out of bed. Wow! Worked wonders.

Have any of you had any experience with taking magnesium for backache?

Thanks, Joy

Re: Back relief, Doans pills, magnesium ...

Hi Joy, I started taking magnesium about 2 weeks ago, but not for backache. I have been having leg problems, cramps in the back of my legs and a sore feeling in the muscles. My doctor recommended the magnesium for these symptoms. I also had some blood work done, but didn't get the results yet. I do have a few bad disc's in my back, also. My legs do feel a little better, but my back still hurts, so I don't think the magnesium did anything for my back so far. I was wondering what other kinds of vitamins you were taking, and why did you stop taking them? I take so many kinds of vitamins: Potassium, B-12, Calcium, Folic acid, Garlic, Vitamin E, etc. Sometimes I think I should just take a mulit vitamin and be done with it! I am glad to hear the magnesium helped your back, though, and I hope you continue to be pain free. You never know what might work, and I am glad the magnesium helped you. Take care!

I take magnesium daily for muscle cramps (legs and feet) and I suppose it makes sense it could help your back if you're having spasms.
A lot of times back problems are muscle spasms, but sometimes there's more going on with discs and vertebre like in my case, and magnesium doesn't help with that unfortunately, sure wish it would!
Glad that you found relief and in such an easy cheap way!
