Question Has anyone ver heard of this?

Hello all

I have been battling the pain from a L5-S1 herniation for over a year. I was getting better after 6 months and then wham!!! Three months ago I got worst. I couldn't stand, walk or sleep. I chose to come out of work and rest for about a month. Then all of a sudden one day I woke and the pain was gone!!! No more nerve pain. I can stand for a long time now and I can walk without a limp or draggin g my foot. It feels like a miracle. Has this happen to anyone? Is it short lived and will come back? I am so scared it will

Hi Nicole.. yep.. this does occasionally happen, sometimes it's for good and other not. Have you been to the doc lately? Might wanna get an MRI to see what's going on in there. Discs CAN heal themselves and you might be one of the lucky ones! Hope so!

Make sure you are forever being aware of your spine moving forward. You also want to make sure you exercise appropriately to strengthen all the core muscles that protect your spine to help prevent further injury. A physical therapist is an excellent reource to help you work on these specific muscles in a fashion that will help you reduce the risk of injury by improperly exercising.

All the best to you!! Tammy

Re: Has anyone ver heard of this?

Well I'm glad you no longer have the pain. I suffered a sequestered herniation at L5-S1 while I was pregnant and my whole leg went numb. After 2 mos the pain went away and it came back towards the end. Then when I was 6 mos post partum it came back and didn't go away. I had an MRI and it was the worst herniation ever(Sequestered). I had progressive weakness in my left leg. So I had a micro-d in May. Now I have been having pain all the time and actually have to go to the Dr. tonight for more pain issues. Most likely requiring a fusion at some point. My surgeon says that once you herniate you are likely to herniate again because the disc is very weak. The pain is at its highest when the disc first herniates. Then once the nucleus comes out of the disc(annulus) into the spinal column the back pain dissipates and nerve pain could get worse or even lessen. Good luck and enjoy being pain free as most of us on here aren't that lucky!
