    Re: spondylosis , pars defect

I have spondylosis with a slight slip and bilateral pars defect. My neurosurgeon wants to put dysesis(sp) rods in to stablize my spine. I also have a bulging disk and leg pain.. I had facett joint injections and the nerves burnt. This took care of the leg pain however I still have alot of lower back pain sometimes to my hip. My Dr. said if this stablization does not work then he would do a fusion. I am just tired of pain and having to take pills for relief.

What did your MRI and x-rays show?

I have a brouchure on it. It is called Dynesys. Dynamic Stabilization System. They are rods that are screwed into the vertebrae. My Dr. said he would do two levels the affected level which I believe is L4-L5 and the level above. He also said that there is a new device simalar that was just approved that allows more flexablity. This stablizes the pars. I have bilateral pars and it was undetected for years causing bouts of sever pain. My pain now is chronic and my Dr. said when I am tired of the pain and can no longer function thru it he will do the surgery. I am getting very close. Some days my pain is so great that I just want to sit and cry. I take loratab 7.5 2 every 4 hours and on bad days my pain level is at an 8 with the meds. On a good day maybe 3-4 some days are pain free but very few of them.
The rods look like a little shock absorber. I believe you can find info in a past posting on this page. I will be glad to pass on any other info I can get for you.

    Re: spondylosis , pars defect

ive had 4 monthes straight of chronic pain. The past 7 years i could deal with it now and again. But after herniation this spring and discectomy this summer it got worse and different. I have lots of muscular pain running vertical from low to mid back. it use to be low and horizontal before all this. how bout you? wheres your pain? Im tenatively scheduled for posterior fusion of the transverse processes jan. 9th. Im really scared but my quality of life sucks. This whole thing this year has been the worst nighmare I could have imagined.

    Re: spondylosis , pars defect

my chronic pain began in March. orginally started in my right hip. I had an xray which showed 3 lesions on my hip. I had a bone scan which showed no tumors. I went to the bone specialist whom ordered the MRI (number 5 over the years) and referred me to the neurosurgeon. He is great. Found the pars and ddd. My pain is in the lower back radiating to my right hip and down the right leg. I had trigger point injection. facett joint injections (which helped) and a rhizotomy (nerve burning) which helped the leg pain. My bulging disk is recurrent from 1999 when I orginally herniated the disk by picking up my daughter. I hate chronic pain. My quality of life sucks right now. I am still working but am limited. I can not even pull open a door if it is two heavy. Today I feel that everything crashing in on me even with pain meds my pain is high. I think this may be from the stress of work and holidays. On good days I think I can go on for months. My Dr. orginally wanted to do surgery in Jan but now has left it up to me. He said when I tell him my quality of life is so bad that I can't go on he will do the surgery.
