MedX lumbar extension machine

Has anyone here used the MedX lumbar extension machine? I just saw a back specialist, showed them my MRI, and they told me my pain was from my lower back muscles rather than from my two slipped discs.

They put me on a MedX machine which tested and verified that my lower back muscles were far weaker than they should be. They want to put me on this machine (which isolates the lower back muscles) for treatment. It is FAR less expensive than other treatments like VAX-D which they could have offered if they were just trying to get money out of me. Problem is that the machine did cause a minor increase in pain afterwards.

Has anyone used this machine before? If the pain is in your muscles, is the increased pain from working them out normal until they get strong, then it eventually goes away? Or does the fact that the machine gave me pain show that the diagnosis was flawed? Thanks.

Re: MedX lumbar extension machine

I had bad back pain a few years ago from lifting boxes during a move. The MedX lumbar flexion-extension machine did wonders for my lower back strength in a matter of weeks. It was very cheap ($45 per visit to the chiropractor twice a week, or a bit over $30/month for a Gold's Gym membership). It is a super tool for normal backs.

I don't remember any pain at all from the machine. No more sensation than from a good weight-training workout.

Herniated discs could complicate things considerably. An orthopedist would have to advise on that.

Re: MedX lumbar extension machine

I have used the same type of machine, yes. But I went hoping to restore the health of a bulging disc. That didnt happen. No change at all after several months on that machine.

But I will say, that my back got an excellent workout. And it made me very very sore for at least the first 10 sessions. Then it got easier. But it flared me up so badly I even had to stop the sessions and get some steroid injections to control the inflammation before I could continue.

Before going forward with this, I would suggest getting another opinion from another spine specialist that is not connected with that group. Ask for your MRI films and report and take them with you to a new doc.

Then if you get the same speech.. then maybe it's something to consider trying if you can afford the expense.

I paid over $4K for mine and while my back felt better, it didnt change anything in the spine and eventually things were as bad, even worse before I started there.

I wouldnt do it again personally. For me it was a waste of money for the little ray of hope it brought then rained. lol.
