How long are MRI good for?

I hear that MRI 's are only good for about 6 months. I dont know, but my pain condition changed drastically over the past week. It went from very little pain to constant strong pain, during this short time!

Had my MRI done last August '05. At that time doctor saw no sign of any damage whatsoever. He merely dismissed my condition as possible ligament damage, prescribed anti-inflammatory and told me its no big deal at all.

If my doctor misdiagnosed me, he is in for some big trouble.

Surgeons really like the MRI's to be 6 months old or younger. That has been my experience. If you are feeling more pain, I would go to a doc. And consider getting other opinions as well. I hope you feel better soon.

Re: How long are MRI good for?

My fusion surgery was done from one that was 16 months old. It was ordered by the 2nd opinion doctor, not the surgeon that did the surgery . It took two court dates in this 16 months to get the surgery. They will probably use the one from July 2006 for the next surgery. Maybe I should ask for another MRI/contrast.

My doctor ordered a fresh MRI before surgery. It was only 2 months old. I would say a new one is definitely in order especially since you are still having pain and you might consider seeing a neurosurgeon or spinal surgeon if you haven't.
