When will that "old" burning pain go away??????

I am about 6 weeks out of L5/S1 spinal fusion and am doing really well. HOWEVER, especially at night, I still have that old pre-surgery burning in my right hip and down my leg. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and how long this will go on? Thanks so much!

Elle - it is normal to have this pain. You have to remember that the nerves are moved and manipulated not to mention that the nerve was inflamed prior to surgery. It takes a very long time to heal. I am at 5 1/2 months post op and I still have the burning down the leg and into the foot. I was told that if it was inflamed for a long time prior to surgery that it will take a long time to heal.

It is also normal to notice an increase in pain around the 5/6th week. Many of us have experienced it and were told by our doctors that they inject numbing stuff as well as steroids in while we were on the surgical table to help us with healing/calming down the inflamation after surgery.

Take care and I hope you find some relief soon.

dietpepper is right on the money.. its normal to have old (and new) pains after a fusion. a lot of stuff get moved and stretched and it will take a while (months even) to settle down. nerves take a while to heal.

I had odd pains for several months after my fusions.
