Help me read my lumbar spine MRI

I don't see my doctor for nother 2 weeks... I had an MRI because I have low back pain radiating down my right leg into my knee. I have increased reflex on my right leg and decreased on my left. The MRI reads like this:

1) Approx 8mm nodule occupying the L4 vertebral body on both the T1 & T2 weighted images, typical of a hemangioma.

2) Mild degenerative facet hypertrophy at the L2-3, L3-4 and L4-5 levels but neural foramina at this level appear patent.

3) L5-S1 level, there is a subtle contour irregularity with the central disc, likely representing a small central disc herniation. Disc herniation approaches the the right S1 nerve root.

I'm scared and am tired of hurting all the time. I've just turned 40 and am supposed to be in the prime of my life - 1 son in college and 1 graduating from HS and my husband just bought a motorcycle. I can barely drive the car for more than 20 minutes with pain meds and he thinks I can sit on the back of a bike. HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

Thanks 13drpepper - I really just appreciate that someone is out there that might understand.

I think I may be over reacting.. but I know the pain that I am in is real.

Re: Help me read my lumbar spine MRI

Dear Mary, Hi! I responded to your other post, regarding arthritis. I am not a medical professional, but I have had many MRI's. It appears like you have a bulging or herniated disc at L5-S1 that may be pressing on a nerve. This can cause pain down the leg like you are experiencing. You also have arthritis in the facet joints in your lumbar region (I have this too). These are the joints on the side of your vertebrae. I do not know about the first item listed on your MRI. You certainly have evidence on your MRI of things that could be causing your pain. I would ask your doctor where he thinks the pain is coming from, and what is his plan? I know that they sometimes have to treat one thing first, to eliminate it as a source of pain. I had a bulging disc and facet arthritis, so I got shots by the bulging disc first. It did not help. Then I had shots in the facet joints and it did help. That is kind of the way the doctors go about it. I hope that helps! Let us know how your appointment goes. Kera4
