Angry unbearable lower back pain after fall down a flight of stairs

Hello All, I had a nasty fall down a flight of stairs a little over a year and a half ago. After going to the er they took me off work for two weeks and put me on vicodin, I tried to go back to work when the doctor told me I could {I'm an auto body and heavy collision tech} and there was no way I could work in that much pain even while on vicodin. I have not been back to work since.I've been to numerous Doctors, therapist, surgeons. All of which have told me there is nothing they can do. I am currently in a pain management program where they have me on morphine patch and morphine sulfate pills, They don't even touch the pain. Has anybody been on a pain medication that actually works?

It all depends on your body. Morphine never worked for me, but is has for other people. Oxycodone is what I take now (Post-Op).
Never let them tell you there is nothing they can do! Keep going to differrent Dr.s and see A Spine Specialist! MRI's X-rays the whole deal. It took 10 years for them to diagnose me.

    Best of luck,
    kevin

I'm going to yet another group of doctors in the first part of the new year and hope to get some help with the pain, I have been going to U of M's doctors since my fall and have had MRI's, Xrays, test on top of test, seen physical therapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, physical trainers and have had 2nd opinions, and 3rd opinions. Now I'm meeting with their group for a 4rth opinion after more MRI's and xrays. I've got my fingers crossed. By the way, I'm glad to hear that your doing better{it gives everyone hope}. BEST WISHES and A LOT OF PRAYERS. j454

Have you seen a spinal specialist? You sound like you have issues that they are not finding. Make sure the MRI's use contrast dye. Have they done a EMG nerve test? I can't take class II drugs. I tried, but develope breathing problems that results in 6 day stays in the hospital. I have tried oxycotin, Methadone, morphine and morphine patch. Can't take them. I take Norco, the top of the class III list. Doesn't even touch the pain. I would say the oxycotin was the best, but was only on it two days and the side effects took over. I know what it is to be in pain and they look at you like you are crazy or worse yet, drug seeking Just keep seeking the solution for your pain and condition. It can take time to find that right doctor, that says here is your source of that pain. Good luck

No, I haven't gotten a doctor to do any contrast dyes with MRI, nor have I had an EMG. I have gone through the UM spine program and they are the ones that told me they can't do anything for me. I do have many issues, the worst is being overrun by the pain. That is why i am here now, to get some advice from those who have been through the rigamaroll that the doctors put you through. They look at me as though I am a narc seeker, when all I want to do is get something resembling a normal life. The pain management doc says he is trying everything he can, but does not want to put me on oxycotin because it is addictive. He keeps trying to push methadone and suboxone(which almost killed me). Just about anything in this class of drugs, I can't take. Again, any advice/comments are greatly appreciated. Best wishes and God bless.

Hi "J". Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time of things. I have read your posts here, and I would like to know what your diagnosis' have been from these mass of docs you've seen to date and what is their premise in saying there is nothing they can do for you?

Besides pain, can you tell us more about your pain.. as in where is it, where does it radiate, etc?

The more we know the more we might be able to offer you, as patients of chronic pain due to spine issues ourselves. I personally have never learned more than right here about my spine, and it's been so helpful for me to date. Plus, the huge bonus of cyber chatting with real people who can relate to your world, where no one else really can, unless they've "been there".

    Welcome.

Re: unbearable lower back pain after fall down a flight of stairs

Thats just it, They have not been able to give me a diagnosis as to what is causing the pain because they can't find anything {they say} but they are not really looking for anything because after having me on pain pills {vicodin} for over a year, they think I'm just a narc seeker now. Thats the furthest thing from the truth. I have lost 1 of the 2 houses that I own, everything I have worked my entire life for including my selfworth, respect from my family and friends {because i can't do anything anymore accept be totally miserable}All so I can get pain pills that don't even hardly touch the pain. I THINK NOT!!!!!! All I'm trying to do is get back a little bit of quality of life worth living for. I have worked my entire life and never had a damn thing given to me and because of a slip and fall, I loose everything. To have these doctors overlook my pain and think they see a narc seeker just UPSETS ME TO NO END! I'm sorry I'm venting.
