Need help with my MRI results! Is this bad?

I will just type everything that I got on my MRI results. L4-5: There is a moderate-to-large disk protrusion of the right lateral recess and foraminal zone. Facet joints are unremarkable. No other disk herniation at this level. The right foraminal and lateral recess herniation is causing mild central canal stenosis, severe lateral reecess stenosis and is impinging on the right L5 nerve root. There is moderate right sides foraminal stenosis more laterally. No significant left sided neural foraminal narrowing.

L5-S1: Midly hypoplastic disk space. No focal herniation. There is no central canal stenosis nor neural foraminal narrowing.

I have been having bad pains in my back which is affecting my right leg and knee. Seems to be getting a lot worse. I was told by my doctor that he marked my case as urgent and refered me to a specialist. So what do you guys think here?

Err on the side of caution and see if you can get examinations from back, pain, and neurology specialists.

Your MRI sounds like mine... slight extrusion at L5-S1. Anyways they put me on a course of physical therapy, which ended up exacerbating my Myofascial damage and "setting back my recovery by perhaps years" according to the Pain Specialist that correctly diagnosed my condition.

Now after living on pain meds for 3 yrs 9 months, going through acupuncture, DNFT chiropractic, psychologist counseling, countless Trigger Point Injections, 9 Basal Branch Nerve Blocks and 4 Radio Frequency Ablations. I'm finally at a point where I have just barely started physical therapy again... this time though great care is being taken not to damage my myofascia any further.

"severe lateral reecess stenosis and is impinging on the right L5 nerve root"

This means you have a major problem where your L5 nerve root on your right side is being pinched. While it's possible conservative treatment may help you over lots of time, I'll be honest with you and tell you that more likely than not this will require surgery.

You need to talk to a neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine surgeon and get their opinion.

Best wishes!
