Considering Anterior Posterior Spinal Fusion

I have been having back pains for the past 4 years. I've tried all types of treatments (epidural, facet injections, medications, nerve blocks). I've even had 3 titanium x-stop devices inserted in my back. After a recent cat scan my surgeon suggested that I was a good candidate for Anterior Posterior Spinal Fusion. Since this is major surgery i wanted to see what other treatments are available considering my condition. The cat scan revealed 1) severe vacuum disc phenomenon with broad-based disc bulge and disc osteophyte complexes combine with moderate right neural foraminal stenosis with the endplate and facet hypertrophic changes encroaching upon the existing nerve root. What I can gleen from this is that some of my discs have severe degeneration and I
have some serious stenosis going on. I'm looking for a good 2nd opinion orthopedic surgeon (in the Denver area) to insure that this major surgery is my only solution.

Re: Considering Anterior Posterior Spinal Fusion

Could you tell me where the X-stop surgeries were located? Is your current surgeon a neurosurgeon or ortho spine surgeon?

You might check out Dr. Robert Shay Bess in Denver. Be sure you look for the younger one...there is a father or uncle by the same name who is also an ortho spine surgeon, but I'm suggesting the younger one.
