Re: 2 Bulging Disc... ugggghhhh then why does it hurt

Oh I'm so glad! Everyone I have talked to hasn't been there. I'm glad to hear they are nice. I just want a Dr to listen to me and understand that I just rest all the time. Dr Pepper's office was okay, but it was the first Pain Clinic I have went to so I didn't know. I do know their office takes days to call you back and get back in touch with you.

I need a Dr to understand that I just can't let certain things go. I have two kids, one a baby and I have to take care of them. My husband works 6 days a week, 9 hours a day and his travel time is an hour. How can I expect him to take care of the housework and the outside work and make dinner every night. My husband is burning out and then where would we be. I hate being told well if it hurts don't do it. Okay so I won't pick up my baby out of his crib and I'll just let him cry all day. Is that what they want me to do?

I was really resistant on taking Pain Medication but it has gotten to the point that I take it regularly because if I don't I CAN'T take care of my son, the pain is soooo bad.

Back to the Pen's tickets. I was very upset I couldn't go. Our tickets were 15 rows from the glass. I've never seen a game up that close, and was upset that I couldn't go.

I'm not much of a hockey fan but those were great seats... I know, I know... I'm going to get struck down... lol

As far as the pain management office... they will listen to what you have to say and try to work out a treatment that works for you. I can tell you that if you decide to stay with them they will change you to a long acting pain med. They only prescribe short acting for break-through pain with procedures.

I honestly rather have that. I rather have something I can take once a day then having to constantly take it through out the day. I'm glad they are going to listen.

I won't beat you down for not being a hockey fan as long as you are a Steeler fan! hahahaha

I'm a fan... but they are my #2 team. I was born here but moved away and have only been back here for about 8 years. I will not say who my fave is... you will never "speak" to me again... LOL

    Okay

What are some long last medications? I'm hoping not to be on ANY medications to be honest with you. I can tolerate a lot of pain and I rather deal with it on my own if I can.

The one I take is Opana. I'm not sure what else they use. Maybe Oxycontin.

I took that years ago... it did nothing for me. I take Mobic (anti-inflammatory) for my knee... it helps my back somewhat. Maybe ask them about something like that.

Okay I will do! Thank you so much for your help.

I'm pretty much just scared at this point. I don't have a plan and that makes me nervous. I think once I go to my appointment and we get a plan of action I'll feel a lot better. I'm hoping they can get this pain under control so I can return to my life again. The on the go busy bee that I once was.

Good luck with your appointment. Please let me know what you think of the office. Try not to be scared. They are there to help. Don't be afraid to ask questions... write a list if you need to.

Re: 2 Bulging Disc... ugggghhhh then why does it hurt

    So question.

Someone asks me today that I have been dealing with this pain for a few months now and they kind of made me feel like I shouldn't still be in pain, but I am.

These are the kinds of things that I wonder if I am not doing what I need to be doing or should be doing something else to feel better. I just don't know what else to do.

The person who said this to mean just didn't believe I was still "down" and not able to go anywhere and do anything. It makes me question if I am just feeling sorry for myself and making it up. I feel like I'm going crazy. Is this normal? Have any of you had/have this problem?

Re: 2 Bulging Disc... ugggghhhh then why does it hurt

People are just ignorant. They have no idea what pain can come from having bulging discs that are pressing on nerves, that this is ongoing and is a condition that sometimes cannot be dealt with surgically. Try to just ignore them...or perhaps others can think of some snappy reply for you to give. It is annoying...but you do get used to it.

If your insurance allows it, and depending on what you learn at the pain management clinic, you might want to consult with another spine specialist to see if there might be a difference of opinion regarding your issues.

Before you have your first appointment with the PM clinic, I would like to suggest you keep a pain journal, if you aren't already doing so. Record what makes your pain better or worse, time of day it happens, how long it lasts, the "quality" of the pain (is it numb, electric jolt-type feeling, tingling, etc.). Also note how the pain has changed your life, what it has prevented your from doing, etc.

Take it to the appointment. It is useful for several reasons. First it documents what you are feeling. It helps organize your thoughts so you can better talk to the doctor -- this is helpful in case you tend to get nervous and think of most of the points you wanted to make when you are driving home.
It also shows that you are interested in a treatment that will help to alleviate your issues and that you aren't there just to request drugs. About the worst mistake people make is going to a doctor they have no past relationship with
saying "give me something to make the pain go away." This immediately casts the person as a potential "drug seeker" and that is not what you want the doctor thinking about you!!

Also be sure to take a copy of your MRI with you if your doctor has not forwarded it, or if this is not all in the same medical system so it can be pulled up on the computer.

The first appointment is important. The better prepared you are for it, the better off it will go and you will stand the best chance of getting the help you need and desire.

Re: 2 Bulging Disc... ugggghhhh then why does it hurt

teil -- you mentioned your doctor wanting to do a discogram next. Have you been told you need surgery? If this is not being done for diagnostic purposes prior to a surgery, there is little purpose in doing it. A spine specialist can see most of what he needs to see from a less invasive procedure like MRI or CT scan. Discogram is not without a whole string of risks. You don't want to do it "casually."

(Some spine specialists will not do discograms...period. They are that controversial.)

Re: 2 Bulging Disc... ugggghhhh then why does it hurt

    Great minds must think alike!

I have been keeping a pain journal for the last three months. I document EVERYTHING. Every activity I do(or don't do, I make sure I put I was not able to go do this or had to pass on that because of the pain), every pill I take and what time of day. I put down what the level of pain is when I wake up, mid morning, lunch, afternoon, evening, and then night. I also describe where the pain is and what kind of pain it is. I mark down how much I sleep and the quality. I mark down any other comments to go along with the other documentation. I put down there how I'm feeling even mentally to show what affect this has been on not just me but my family.

I have copies of my MRI films and all the reports that led up to this. I have a list of my medications and all the things I have tried besides just medication.

Do you think I am forgetting anything? You think I should document any more?

That person that made that remark really got under my skin. It was as if I am choosing this quality of life(or lack of) and I'm just doing this for attention. What attention? After the first few weeks of this, people have stopped coming to help and family members are getting tired of running errands for me and doing things for me to where I'm even afraid to ask them anymore. My husband and I don't even sleep in bed together anymore because my moans and crying in the middle of the night keeps him from having a good night sleep.

What gets me is before I became this bad I was ALWAYS there for other people. When ever they asked from me I did, but now it's not the other way around.
