Ive been in pain and I think my doctor minimizes my suffering and he keeps doing it!

I finally got vicodin, but I don't understand his diagnosis,Here it is,I would appreciate any feedback:Findings:Five non-rib bearing lumbar segments are noted.Hypoplastic ribs are present at T12.Lumbar lordosis and vertebral alignment are maintained Thoracolumbar spondylolis is stable. No significant lower lumbar disc space narrowing is noted. There is no large perivertabral mass. The upper sacrum is remarkable. No significant interval change is noted.

When I read this I don't think he knows what he's talking about?

Welcome to the board. Is this the radiology report from a MRI or a CT scan?

I'm not sure what information you are looking for. What does your doctor say that makes you think he doesn't know what he is talking about?

Where is your pain located and what are your symptoms? Are you seeing a spine surgeon for your problem?

In the middle of my back after moving around my back on the right side starts to swell and has knumbing and tingling sensation. I have pinching in my lower back and pains in my legs and buttocks. On the right side it feels like a stab wound. This was an X-ray. I'm in pain, this diagnosis, doesn't aknowledge/ confirm what I'm feeling.

Unfortunately, x-ray will only show the bone structure clearly. It will not indicate if you have a bulging or herniating disc or any nerve compression. You would need a Ct scan or MRI for that.

Would this doctor you've been seeing a PCP or your family doctor? Perhaps you should see a spine specialist if your back is causing you lots of pain.

The x-ray findings don't really indicate much that would send up red flags. It looks like you have some arthritis in the thoracic area which would account for the pain in the middle of the back.

When you have pain in the buttocks that runs into a leg, a sciatica-type pain, it can come from a problem in the lower lumbar area

Xrays are really insufficient to see the detail one needs to evaluate back pain with symptoms of nerve root irritation. I would ask for an MRI, which will be far superior. Better yet try to get an upright MRI which shows the spine under weight bearing conditions and in the position of your pain. If he keeps minimizing your pain and not trying to treat the cause of it, I would seek another opinion from a spine specialist/surgeon. Seeing a surgeon does not commit you to surgery. Consider it a consult only for diagnosis and recommendations. You may also benefit from a pain management Dr who may be able to try epidural steroid injections on that right side once your MRI is done. The swelling in your back sounds like spasm caused by nerve root irritation. You may get some relief from muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories. I would really caution you about the Vicodin. It is addictive and better to treat the cause of the pain.

I do understand the seriousness of addiction and only take them when in pain.I don't like not having anything for months.I don't think anyone understands what going on with my back.I would like a definition of what 5 non rib-bearing segments are noted means? What is a Hypoplastic rib present at T-12

5 non rib-bearing segments=they see 5 vertabrae on the xray. I'm guessing thats what they wanted to see. What is a Hypoplastic rib present at T-12 mean? From reading on google someone else had posted the same question and it means that your T-12 area rib is just shorter than the others which he called a hypoplastic rib. I hope that helps you a little better. I would def see another dr who could send you for an MRI. Good luck to you.
