    Tailbone pain after L5S1 microD

    Hi all,

Hoping someone can shine a bit of light on this.

I had a microdiscectomy and laminectomy on L5S1 after 5 months of severe sciatic pain in my left leg.

The surgery seemed to go well and took care of 90-100% of pain in the first 3 months. I thought I was 'cured' as one can be with spinal issues.

A week and a half ago I started getting weird tailbone pain. It's not sharp or unbearable, it's very annoying, and feels like pressure in my tailbone (as if I fell on it).

I also feel the pain when I tilt my head down as if to look at my chest, and when I lift my legs.

PLEASE tell me it will go away!

    Anyone had this before?

    Welcome to the board.

Can you think of any new movement or activity you may have done prior to the start of pain? Something as simple as a change in heel height can make a difference.

When do you have the pain? Do you only notice it when sitting?

Hi - thanks for the reply.

I finally got back into exercise - running more, squats etc. I feel like I may have overdone it.

The pain is the worst when I get up from a seated position and for the next few minutes it's bad, then it sort of goes away slowly.

It's also bad when I lift either leg while I seated.

Other than that, it's really nothing to write home about.

I think my anxiety at needing more surgery is getting the better of me!

Oh and also I have found that heat pads work.

If I were in your situation, I would cut back on activity for awhile, and would not be doing squats, lunges, climbing a step ladder, etc...any of those movements where you are putting most of your weight on one side and then the other.

It may be that one or both SI joints are a bit sensitive. It may be that the running is even a bit too much for now. It takes quite awhile for things to return to some type of "normal" after spine surgery.
