Please Help Make Sense of my MRI Results

    Hi Everyone,
I have been dealing with low back pain and sciatica in my left leg for about 3 years now. I recently had an new MRI done, at the request of my orthopaedic surgeon, since my symptoms persist, even after multiple epidurals and PT. My appointment with him wont be for another couple weeks, so I am hoping someone can help me make sense of the results:

At L5/S1, the disc is desiccated. There is a focal 7-8mm left paracentral disk protrusion with posteroinferior extension causing left lateral recess narrowing with mass effect on the traversing left S1 nerve root. Clinical correlation secondary to left S1 radiculopathy is recommended. Hypertrophic facet degenerative changes are seen bilaterally.

    Thanks for the help!

I am no doctor but here is my interpolation:
Disk Desiccated means that the disk has lost some height, more than likely due to the protrusion. The protrusion is pretty large (in my opinion) at 7-8mm and it is towards the central park of the spine (paracentral) as opposed to the left or right. It seems as if the protrusion is coming in contact with the left nerve root via posteroinferior extension .
It matches clinically with your symptoms of left lag and low back pain.
You are now part of the hurty spiney group!
    Best of luck,
