    Question hair coloring during pregnancy

I did a search for this topic and found nothing so I thought I would post my question...sorry if someone else has already asked.

Is it safe to use at home hair coloring while pregnant? I asked my doctor and she said it was safe, but then I did a web search and found out it could be harmful due to the fumes. I regularly use Excellence and the smell has never really bothered me as I turn on the fan in my bathroom or open a window to vent it out. I'm only 29 and have over half a head of pure white hair...I know I should embrace it but frankly, I hate it.

    Thank you,
My sanity is gone! I think the kids took it!

I dont like to use any on the scalp (aka whole head) hair color in the first trimester. After that it is ok. Or you can do an off the scalp (highlites, foils, etc) service at any time.
its not the smell but the fact that you absorb some of the chemicals from the color.

I don't think it's alright. I saw an episode of Ambush Makeover where a lady was pregnant and they had to use a semi-permanent dye on her. They didn't want the dye touching her scalp.

You could try Herbatint. It uses natural henna based colors and is available in permanent or temporary dyes. I've seen it in health food stores but you can buy it online too. You could email them and see if they recommend it for pregnant women.

Mixing henna based and regular colors can be very unpredicatble and is not recommended.
Mainly it is the first trimester that you need to be concerned with.
I have seen herbatint but never used it myself
As with any color, you should both patch test and strand test before you proceed
If you do a heavy foil (therefore avoiding the scalp) you can really hide a lot of grey and not worry.

After the first trimester, I colored myhair with a semi-permanent dye. Just make sure that there is good ventilation in the area you are coloring your hair.
