Taking the pill late

Hi all,

I overslept and ended up taking one of my placebo red pills around 8 hrs after I was supposed to. My period has since begun, but my boyfriend and I had sex the day after.

Am I less protected when I take the pill late, or only when I miss it completely?

What pill are you on? I never in the 5 years I have taken bc pills took my placebos. They are just that. Placebos. Nothing but basically a sugar or iron pill. Don't worry I just take a 7 day break (kind of nice haha) and then start my other active pills in the next pack.

I never take the placebos either, there is no reason to other than keep you on track or in the habit of taking a pill each day. If you can remember to start your actives the Sunday after your period then you will be fine not taking them at all.

Ok, thankyou! But if I had missed a hormone pill, am I still protected?

If you miss a hormone pill totally NO you arn't protected but if you take it late you are still protected. I was on the pill for 4 years and I never took the pill at the same time everyday I just seen it as get 1 pill in me a day and I never had a problem!

Probably, as long as you took it the following day. Please read your package insert that came with your pills. In the insert, you will find what to do if you miss a pill. Sometimes these actions are dictated by what week of the cycle you're in. Familiarize yourself with the specifics of your pill.

Re: Taking the pill late

When I was on b/c pills, I never took the placebo pills either....I was horrible at remembering to take my pills. Sometimes doubling up or just skipping one all together (never got pregnant...knock on wood). I think I read some where that the first week of pills are the ones you want to be more careful about taking on time...
