periods with loestrin 24

I started taking Loestrin 24FE a couple months ago, and now my periods are SO LIGHT that I don't even feel as though I'm even having one! My Gyno told me that my periods would be lighter with this BC, but I'm barely even spotting, and I cramp a little but never really bleed!!! Not even enough to fill up one pad or tampon for my whole period! The blood that does come out isn't even red, it's more brownish and slimy than anything and only lasts for like a day. Has anyone else had this problem and should I be alarmed? Just doesn't seem normal to me and I'm anxious if others have had any problems with this BC pill?

Re: periods with loestrin 24

I'm not sure I understand why this is a problem? The whole point of that particular pill is to make the flow a lot lighter and to only last for 3 days maximum, or so they tell you on the commercial. Haven't you seen it? It's on all the time on tv. Anyway, your doctor should have told you that it's more common than not for women to either have a very light period or none at all while taking it, because that is what that particular pill is designed to do.

I would suggest that if you don't like having such a light period (which I can't imagine how any woman wouldn't like that) that you should get on a different pill where you have a heavier flow. I really don't see what the problem is though, because the whole point of why women choose Loestrin24fe is to either completely stop having a period all together or to have a significantly decreased bleed every month, which is exactly what is happening to you.

Re: periods with loestrin 24

yes, that's what i was going for was a lighter period that lasted only 3 days instead of the normal 7, but that's the problem, instead i'm having no period or a very light one, which in my opinion, isn't really healthy. when you have your period you have a sense of relief not only physically but emotionally as well because of all the pms and everything else that builds up before that actual time of the month. or this is atleast how i feel. you become very bloated (having your period relives this) you become very emotional (having your period finally ends this) and actually bleeding for a few days atleast gives you the relief to know you aren't pregnant! so, after reading some other bulletins about people having similiar problems, i guess i can speak for others than myself --- we all want to atleast have some sort of period!

Re: periods with loestrin 24

Well, I guess this might not be the right pill for you, then. Because part of what you describe in your last post is true, yes, about the buildup and the PMS and everything. But that really only applies to women who are au natural and not on any type of fake hormones. Because women who are on fake hormones are tricking their body into thinking it's pregnant, and the bleed that you get on the pill is not a real menstrual period. It's just a withdrawal bleed brought on by a sudden drop in hormones when you are on your placebos. So, even though you would normally consider yourself to potentially be pregnant if you miss a period when NOT on the pill, you can't trust it the same when ON the pill. The absence or presence of a period while you're on the pill doesn't mean anything. It just means that you're not on active hormones at the moment.

But it sounds like to me that you don't like having such a light flow, which again, is the whole point of that particular pill. So if you don't like it, then you should probably ask for a different pill. As for me, I have chosen to stop the fake hormones all together because I realized what kind of harm I was doing to myself, long term, and I didn't feel like taking that chance anymore.

Re: periods with loestrin 24

I was on that pill for a while. I didn't have a period at all for 6 or 7 months. My doctor ended up switching me to get me back to a normal cycle.

I went from thinking I was pregnant to thinking I was going through pre-menopause. Nope...just this bcp.
