Tonsillectomy Recovery

Posted 06-19-2016 03:37 PM by Kaceyn1266

Hello Everyone! I am on day 5 of my tonsil recovery process and it has been anything BUT easy. Days 1-3 were a breeze compared to how I have been feeling recently. On day 3 I hit my hunger peak and could not take it anymore. I force ate mashed potatoes and wonton soup which tasted absolutely amazing. I certainly paid for that on day 4 when I had intense neck and jaw pain and my tongue was extremely swollen. I have also developed Oral Thrush which causes tongue pain and a white film all across the tongue extending back to the throat. Going to see the doctor tomorrow about it. The hardest part of recovery is seeing everyone around you eating delicious food like pizza or Chinese and your just miserable trying to swallow your own saliva. On that same topic, I have been reading other peoples blogs and am extremely surprised that some were eating solid foods a few days after their procedure. One person ate a Full Chicken. I must say that's pretty impressive. I have sat at my kitchen table with a pudding in front of me, crying from the pain it causes me... and its pudding! I used to read peoples stories and think it wasn't gonna be that bad. I am here to say there are women who have given birth naturally and say that getting their tonsils out is more terrible. If that doesn't put it into perspective than I'm not sure what will. I have learned a lot through this process though like how to sleeping sitting up and how to breathe through the pain at times. The pain is never "unbearable" its just uncomfortable and exhausting because all you want to do is eat food and you cant. I have no shame in saying that I'm a 21 yr old female and have cried a few times on my mom's shoulder from the pain and frustration of this operation. My scabs have yet to fall off so that should be the next fun and exciting part of this journey.... NOT. By the way, people will say things to you like "you'll be fine" and "by this day you'll feel better" you just gotta learn to power through and just say OK because my parents kept saying that to me about how I would "turn a corner soon" and it hasn't happened yet. In fact, it seems like the pain has been getting increasingly worse so eventually they just stopped because I would get frustrated with them. Nobody truly understands the pain that YOU experience in your recovery because we all heal differently. Good Luck to everyone! I will post again in a few days
