Anyone on long term Lovenox? Lifetime?

I started on Coumadin and had repeated PEs, I have been on lovenox at 90mg every 12 hours for three years from OCT96 to OCT99, had another DVT in JUN05 and I am back on Lovenox at 110mg every 12 hours.

I would like to know if anybody else is on lifetime or long term Lovenox or other LMW heprin. Has anybody tried using the air insulin needless syringes?

I have found a way to reduce those FAT needles. In 1996 I was taking 3ea 30mg syringes 12hrs/day. What I did to reduce the pain of LARGE 27gauge needles, was to inject the shots into a BD Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringe that had a 30 gauge 1/2" needle < MUCH Smaller hole in belly) The viscosity of the Lovenox is simular to insulin; informed my doctor and he said we would tell others to do the same.

I was refering to the "BIOJector", "Medi-Jector" or "INJEX™30".
The BioJector doses up to 100mg (1ml); Medi-Jector is up to 50mg.

I use Lovenox by the Vials of (300mg) and draw from them according to my weight.

I would love to try an no-needle injector so I can try other places then my tummy.

    http://www.bioject.com/products/bio2000.html
    http://ra.disabilityexpo.com/unique/bioject.htm

I understand it costs about $700USD, another one that is spring loaded sells for ~$270
I would like to know if anyone has tired this before experimenting and finding it will not work.

Hi I just found this site. I started having Dvt's 25 yrs ago, have had I'm not sure how many and 2 PE.s About 5 years ago Coumadin stopped keeping my INR stable plus I didnt feel right, caugh everything that was around. Kaiser did repeated blood tests and nothing,. My Mom's Brother was the Head Neurologist at Mayo in Rochester for over 30 years and was semi-retired.
So I went to Mayo for a week, and in a day they found l now had APS. Antiphospholipid Syndrome. I got it from A drug I recived after having Major Brain Surgery. APS makes you clot easier! Just what I needed. So I have been on Lovenox since then and until something better comes out. I find I can handle it easier, even had a surgery and no clots this time! I Ride my bike long distances and run alot. My left leg circulation isnt great but its alot better than it would be.

Re: Anyone on long term Lovenox? Lifetime?

Bikejo24, my Hemotologist told me that there is an oral LMW heprin in trials for short term use. He told me that I could expect to hear about long term testing in about a year if the short term version works well. Maybe I should get better testing to see why I have these blood clots; my hemotologist told me the fact I do get them, It should be enough ... because he knows there is nothing to "fix" the problem except to take Lovenox. Thanks for replying to my question, now I know two others on long term LMW heprin. When I do get word of the oral test I will be squaking loudly.

    Regards,

    Terry

Re: Anyone on long term Lovenox? Lifetime?

This is just an update. I found the company that is doing the LMWH trials.
It is called Emisphere Technoligies and they are on their 3rd and final trial phase. If this works, it will take over Cumadin and other LMWH such as Lovenox. A pill based on your weight with no periodic blood testing... can not wait, and my doctor said he will put me on it when it is ready. I just hope the price is not a killer such as Lovenox. Their web site is:
    http://www.emisphere.com

    Regards,

    Terry ( Crossing my fingers)

Re: Anyone on long term Lovenox? Lifetime?

I have just been placed on long term Lovenox after a terrible time with Warfarin. It failed and now it's Lovenox time. I feel like myself again. I have started a thread under blood disorders named DVT Recovery. I am still new to this site so am sorting out how to find people etc.

This is my third DVT with maybe three PEs and every day I took Warfarin I felt like I was dying a little bit. My swelling is down and my pain is deminished though I still huff and puff on exertion and my leg hurts when it swells. I would appreciate your reading my post on DVT Recovery. I have asked a lot of questions there.

Thanks in advance for your response. I hope you are doing well.
