Recently diagnosed with Prothrombin Gene Mutation 20210

I went to the ER with severe pain in my abdominal area. They did CT scans and found that my Portal Vein is full of blood clots and I spent 18 days in the hospital. They diagnosed me with Prothrombin Gene Mutation and told me that it's too dangerous to bust the clots up. I'm looking for anyone that knows more about this condition or knows of a special clinic that deals with rare blood disorders. I was a perfectly healthy 28 year until now and I worry every day. They have put me on blood thinners for the rest of my life to prevent anymore clotting. They say only 4% have this disorder, so they don't have a lot to go by in helping me.

Hi, I have it too! I was diagnosed after my Dr looked at my family history of blood clots. I had a DVT in my arm in September, was on cumidin for six months but am off it now. You need to find a good hematologist, they are often oncologists. My 26 yr old daughter has it too. You shouldn't take hormones. I'm sure they already told you that. I think this is just a risk they we have to deal with. They tell me to always stay hydrated.
