osteochondroma surgery
I've had a osteochondroma for around 3 years and only in the past few months it has begun to bother me and put me in pain after lots of movement or standing for a long time. It is located on my lower femur a few inches away from my knee and is nearly 4cm in size with a large cap of cartilage on it. Its also very central so the scar would be very noticeable and make the texture of my leg uneven as the bone has moved the fat of my leg along towards to my knee.
I've been offered excision surgery to move it or just 'leave it' as I may be replacing one type of pain for another. Really not sure about surgery as I am in my first year of exams currently and cannot afford to miss a lot but I rely on my legs to get me everywhere and walking is beginning to be uncomfortable. My osteo has told me I will no longer be growing within 3 months so I have to see him and have an answer by March.
I know the surgery is minor but I'm young and worried, has anyone had this surgery? Or is just living with it? They have to cut my muscle open too so I'm wondering if this will effect my movement/ ability to do sport? Does the scar fade?
Thank you.
