About a month ago I had a colonoscopy done. Soon after i started to have some cramping with bowel movements. It got so bad the lower abdomen pain I went to the ER Had cat scan and was told I had diverticulitis. I'm sure the colonoscopy caused it. I usually don't get diverticulitis. Anyone had a flare up after colonoscopy?

    Re: colonoscopy/diverticulitis

    Dear marip1,

I can relate as I had a long-lasting horrible experience after a colonoscopy. Other people sale right through, but I always had uneasy digestion and the 'cleansing' product really stripped my gut of the beneficial bacteria so necessary to digestion.

My endo had me buy pure black licorice extract at a health food store (the candy sold in most American stores is not the real licorice) and take drops of that every day or twice a week until the problem was relieved. I also had to cut sugar out of my diet completely for awhile and take prebiotics and probiotics daily and eat a lot of plain yogurt before my gut began to relax and work properly. Years alter, I still need to be careful. My taste buds completely changed. Nothing tastes 'right' to me anymore.

Oh well. Now I eat for nutrition and not for enjoyment. I say this with chagrin, as I did used to love the taste of food!

    For already have diverticulae?

The scope wouldn't have caused diverticulitis or diverticulosis....were you put on antibiotics to treat it?

Do you have a copy of the results of your scope and scan?

It's all a matter of perspective!
