    Can't wipe clean.

I have extreme trouble wiping myself clean after a BM. I am not constipated but some mucusy wet fecal matter always is stuck in my rectum. I have to wipe until I'm bleeding. If I keep pushing more keeps coming out in small wet bits. Metamucil has not helped. I'm exhausted from dealing with this. I also don't drink coffee so that isn't the problem. What can I do?

    Re: Can't wipe clean.

I always was constipated and had internal hemeroids. Got worse as I approached my mid 50s. I also could never wipe clean (called fecal incontinance by my first GI) and also have IBC (irritable bowel-constipation). Some things I was told by 2 GIís: drink Tons of water and mix in 1 Tbls of Benefiber per day (similar to Metamucil). Also I use 1/2 to 1 full cap of Miralax in my first cup of coffee in the morning. That is crucial for me to go often enough so Iím no longer straining. Also Miralax is safe to take long term, although Iíve needed less recently. Also get enough fiber in your diet. Finally and this was just trial and error, we have tons of wash cloths that I use ďdown thereĒ every time I take a bath or shower to stay extra clean. If I start itching itís a clue that when I wipe after a BM l will have fecal residue on the toilet paper. Get yourself a good GI dr and also if youíre over 50 get that colonoscopy. Very important and sometimes under 50 if you are having other symptoms. Hope that helps some.
