Diverticular disease and positive faecal occult test

I was diagnosed with non complicated diverticulitis years ago back in 2006. It was generally treated with antibiotics but usually cleared by itself with a 2 day liquid diet. I had a colonoscopy in 2014 which showed diverticular disease with diverticular pouches, no polyps at all.
Sometimes I go for long periods without symptoms and other times I get two or three flares a year which settle within 2 days going off solids. (without antibiotics)
I do get regular bowel discomfort though and have always had alternating constipation, loose bowels with frequent bowel movements which seems consistant with the disease. I have had a couple of fecal occult tests with the older jar and scoop setup which were negative. Recently I had a much more accurate fecal occult test over three days with a far more thorough test kit involving the use of a stick to be inserted into the fecal matter at least 5 times in different areas of the fecal matter. I conducted the test over 3 seperate days and sent it off. Day one was negative but day 2 and 3 were positive. I have now scheduled another colonoscopy but there is a waiting list. I am very nervous about the positive results but what I want to know is could this be due to the diverticular disease? We don't have a history of bowel cancer in our family. I know everyone fears bowel cancer but I have heard there are many causes of microscopic bleeding in fecal occult tests. I have been taking daily low dose aspirin for over a year and also took nurofen the day before the tests. I also use actilax daily and recently coloxyl stool softener (both which also may affect occult tests) I have a work injury (hernia) which needs surgical repair. I cannot at this time take the added worry of positive fecal occult tests. I should have got the test at another time so as to not overwhelm myself with additional worry.
I am having the colonoscopy anyway but opinions would be much appreciated at this difficult time for me, thanks.

Yes, diverticulitis can cause bleeding...as can aspirin and ibuprophen. Stool softeners would not. Unfortunately, the only way to know is to have the colonoscopy. Its great it's already set up.

Worry is normal, and I don't think any justification one way or the other will lessen it.
When do you have the c-scope? Make sure you are completely off the aspirin or other nsaids (I think it is 5 days) before the scope.

Thanks for your helpful advice I will be placed on the waiting list for Colonoscopy, not sure how long the wait is, possibly 6 months.

At the moment I am focusing on my inguinal hernia and getting back to work. So the Colonoscopy will be later on once the hernia is all sorted and I am back to normal.

In the meantime... maybe at 3 months, do another occult test possibly if your scope isnt for a long while.

Hope all goes smoothly with your inguinal hernia surgery recovery.

Thanks Bro, and great advice too
I think the hernia found by ultrasound was A problem but not THE problem causing my symptoms following injury, symptoms are very localised in the abdomen muscles.....sore to the touch = muscle strain.

The inguinal hernia is probably congenital and asymptomatic, a red herring finding. But may need surgical intervention at a future date depending on what the specialist says,

take care Quincy, cheers from Australia and stay safe
