Flat Stools?

hi. well i just had a flexible sigmoidoscopy a couple of weeks ago for some bleeding that turned out to be some sort of inflamation (the biopsy results haven't come back yet) but my doc is pretty sure it's UC and gave me some asacol... which i've been taking and the blood is non-existant now..

however, for the last couple of months or so i've been having somewhat flattened stools... more like an oval shape. but i've also had completely normal round ones as well... but not that often.

so my question is... i've read that if there was an obstruction causing flat stools then it would most likely be in view of a sigmoidoscopy... is that true? also if that were the case wouldn't there be pain or cramping or something?

and also if it were an obstruction i wouldn't still have the occasional normal round stools would i?

my diet isn't all that great and i've been taking fibre twice a day (though it is an off brand... don't know if that would make a difference) but that doesn't seem to change anything.

could having mild inflamation in the colon cause flat stools?

i have a follow up appointment with the gastro doc on feb 17th and will be discussing this with him then... but in the mean time i figured i'd see if anybody here could give me some info.

oh and i have no insurance, which is the reason i got a flex sig instead of a colonoscopy.

Re: Flat Stools?

I think BM shape is mostly caused by the shape of your anus. I remember after I had a hemorrhoid operation for years mine were sorta flat and it never turned out to mean anything???

I wish you well---Harry
