metamucil question

Ok, so I bought the capsule form of Metamucil. I've never taken any form of Metamucil before but I definitely wanted the capsules. Anyways, why does it say that you need to take it with a full glass of liquid?? If you swallow it down with a gulp of water, how can it cause you to choke? I don't understand and I would just like to know this. Thanks for your help.

Re: metamucil question

I certainly hope you know why you are taking Metamucil???
It is for a water soluble fiber to regulate your BMs.
The glass of water is so the psyllium will have some liquid to absorb-- If you don;t drink enough liquid -- it WILL constipate you.

Re: metamucil question

Yes, of course I know why I am taking the Metamucil. I can understand why it would make you constipated if you didn't take in enough liquid but I can't understand why there is a choking warning for the capsules. If you swallow it down to your stomach, how can it choke you?

Re: metamucil question

It absorbs water......from anywhere. If it gets stuck (as any gel caps can) on the esophagus it will absorb water from the saliva. It's stuck because it's absorbed the the kleenex pieces put on a razor scrape? Or a stuck bandaid on a cut. It absorbs the fluid.

It sits there and swells. It's best to get it into the stomach and be pushed along with the rest of the absorbs water from the entire digestive system, bulking stuff up and helping stool soften and pass.

That's it in a,I mean a metamucil capsule.

hope that helps
It's all a matter of perspective!
