Hello, I have a question about stools. My boyfriend has noticed he has alot of soft, narrow stools. Does anyone know what this means? He is only 24 years old, I am worried it could be something serious. Are there common reasons to have narrow stools? I know with colon cancer your stools are narrowier.. but are there other reasons, I cant seem to think of any!
Narrow stools dont happen all the time, just about once or twice a week he says.

Any info would be helpful! I need to calm myself down!!

    Re: stools

If his stools are soft then they are likely to be narrow. The anus is a slit that becomes more like as circle the more it opens. If the stools are soft then it does not need to open and far, and since they are soft they can be shaped by the structure of the anus. My guess is that he is fine. A slight change in diet or other things can easily cause the stools to be just a little softer than usual.

In fact, congratulate him on being aware of the quality of his stools. Many guys do not pay any attention to their stools and there for do not detect problems that can lead to hemorrhiods and other problems.

Hello. I have another question. I was talking with my boyfriend further and he says these soft narrow stools happen just about everyday. A normal thick stool happens about every three days. What does this mean>? Is it serious? Is there something he can take or eat to change the consitence?
