Re: what type of fiber do I need?

Citrucel helped my husband. Currently he's trying Metamucil because that's what all the doctors told him to take. He wants to see which one he likes best. The GI doc also told him it would be perfectly safe for him to take Immodium every day if he wanted to. He hasn't done that yet because I think he doesn't want to take medicine unless he really needs it. We also got some Acidophillus probiotic for him. That is supposed to help also. Good luck.

Citrucel is a semisynthetic soluble fiber (methylcellulose) that is safe as a fiber and since it is not brokendown or ferment by your digestion it does not produce gas.

But, Metamucil is a natrual fiber (psyllium seed husk) that is brokendown and does ferment producing GAS -- the gas usually goes away with continued use so I suggest if you take Metamucil -- start off slow so your body can get use to it.
It is very important with the soluble fiber to drink water as directed or it won't work!!!

I personally like and use the generic brand of psyllium -- Equate from Wal Mart it seems courser than Metamucil and a dose contains about 1/3 more fiber & it cost about half as much.
