    Does Calcium supplements cause constipation?

I am wondering if it is safe for me to take Calcium supplements when I do have trouble with constipation/diverticulosis. RIght now, I am doing okay, and don't want to rock the boat. But, I feel I need to start up with the Calcium. Any advise?

Re: Does Calcium supplements cause constipation?

Some calcium supplements can cause constipation. It is natures natural tranquilizer. The type that causes less problems is the chelated type of calcium. This calcium is bonded to a protein amino acid that our systems readily absorb w/o having much effects on your intestines.

As you may know for the absorption of calcium you also need both magnesium and vitamin D.

When calcium/mag tablets caused me constipation I switched to a soft liquid gel cap called Easy Cal by Platinum. I had no bowel trouble with this one.

It is a complete calcium magnesium supplement with vitamin D, zinc and K.
Also the benefit of evening primrose oil in it.
