Does anyone have these symptoms with Diverticulitis?

Wondering if anyone else that has a history of diverticulitis has these symptoms. Sometimes, like today, I have a collicky feeling right above the pubic area which feels sorta like trapped air or something. (In between trapped air and a cramping/pressure feeling.) Also I am having a lot of mucus in my stools. I have posted several times about having repeated attacks of diverticulitis and sometimes I have both of these symptoms and sometimes I get the collicky feeling that resolves on it's on after a few days. I am usually sick every 6 weeks with diverticulitis and am at the point of having to be hospitalized or have in home IV therapy with Zosyn to clear the infections. I have become allergic to Cipro and could never tolerate Flagyl. Augmentin 875worked for several years but now is no longer effective. I just hate running to the doctor with every symptom because I am on antibiotics every 6 weeks and do want to avoid them now if I can. I am scheduled to consult with a surgeon next week about a possible resection as surgery seems to be my only chance of getting my life back. I am 48 and have been having attacks for 7 years. I know, I should have had surgery years ago but I am just so non trusting when it comes to healthcare etc. I have had some really weird experiences and don't have a lot of trust anymore so I've put this off about as long as I possibly can. My question is, does anyone else ever get these symptoms that subside or do they have these two symptoms with their bouts of diverticulitis? I almost always have the collicky feeling right above the pubic area when I am infected. That seems to be one of my first symptoms. Does anyone else get these symptoms?

Hi LCW! I, too, have diverticulosis and have episodes of diverticulitis--actually at the moment I am on Augmentin for this bout since Saturday(8/4) and it stinks. I'm very sensitive to meds and sometimes feel worse from the side effects. When I have an episode, it starts in the lower left quadrant, rests on the nerve connecting to the bladder and it makes me feel like I have a constant bladder infection, so the Augmentin does a two-fold job. What's making this time worse is that I'm about to have my gall bladder out so it bothers my upper right, too, and right now constipation is is a nuisance, too. Isn't it nice to be the ones to have these pain in the neck issues? I totally sympathize with you. I'm 50 and 10 years post hysterectomy so I know what menopause is, too. So far no one has suggested surgery, but I'm sure that will be up the road someday. Just waiting to get an appointment with the gastro doc. I really feel I was with the wrong gastroenterologist over the past year, so I'm trying to play catch up with my life. I hope I get there! Take care & write with any questions--Hopeto--

I had diverticulitis.peritonitis, and a CDiff infection last oct. % days on IV antibioitcs (with nonstop vomiting until they changed the flagyl to something else). I was home 4 days when my colon perforated and I went in for emergency surgery. Woke up in ICU with a temp colostomy and missing 6 inches of colon. I had the reversal in Jan. My pain initially was like a stomach flu, but low, and it just felt different to me than anything I'd had before. Never thought it was so serious when I went to the ER. The perforation was indeed the worst pain I've ever had (3 labors, hysterectomy, sgoulder surgeries..still by far the worst) I highly recommend eating the probiotic yogurt or activa daily to put the good bacteria back in. So many antibiotics kill the good stuff and thats how I ended up with the CDiff infection.

When I had my attacks of diverticulitis, I would at first have a vague type pain on my extreme lower left side. It would progress to "labor" type pains eventually, but I would always know it was coming because of the first lower left pain. I would then try to do anything I could to stop the attack, but was never successful. It always had to go its course, I would be on antibiotics, and would eventually feel better. I did not get an attack every 6 weeks. I cannot imagine dealing with it that often. I did suffer with it for years, and had my FINAL flare up a year ago February. 6 weeks after that, I had a foot of my sigmoid colon removed, and have not been sick since! I have never regretted doing this, only regretted not doing it sooner. But, I finally had a surgeon with a plan, and he got the infected part out. It took him about 5 hours due to adhesions, etc, I was in the hospital for a week, but have been going strong since.
I would definitely talk to a surgeon about a resection. You do not want to wait for it to blow.
I am very conscious about fiber now, drinking a fiber type supplement every morning, etc. I also lost 75 pounds (not due to the surgery--just knew I needed to drop it and did it by counting calories).
I am 43, so I knew this needed to be dealt with. Best to you, and there are so many helpful people on here who have had the same problems, surgery, etc.
