Food Poisoning? Stomach Flu? - Sick Girlfriend

I am writing this for my girlfriend. (sorry if parts of this are gross)

I will probably post this in the general board too, not sure where to post.

She went out for fish (not shellfish) just fish and chips on Friday night.

She went to the bathroom like every 15 minutes to urinate for about an hour before she went to bed. She thought maybe she had a UTI but there was no burning and it wasn't like she had to pee but nothing was there. I think she might have had a few ice teas that day and a lot of water, so maybe that's why.

On Saturday for lunch she went out for chinese, she had beef and brocoli on a bed of rice.

She wasn't very hungry at lunch so took some leftovers from the chinese food home and ate them a few hours later.

That night she started feeling kinda tired and a bit nauseated.

On Sunday she thought she felt better so she made some cream of wheat or malt o meal, forget which one.

She said she had fairly normal bowel movements during the day, getting a bit looser later on, but fairly solid.

She wasn't very hungry so she had a bit of jello and water. Up until this time she thought she might have a UTI so didn't think anything of trying to eat and drink a little. She did drink some cranberry juice. But after she stopped peeing so much she thought it seemed more like food poisoning maybe but she wasn't sure because nobody else in the house got sick.

She had a small bowl of cream of chicken soup that night with a few crackers. She kept everything down but didn't feel great.

That night she attempted to eat half an apple and threw up.

That was the only time she threw up even though she felt a bit nauseated.

Since then she has been drinking a lot of water because she doesn't want to get dehydrated.

Yesterday, Monday the diarrhea started, more like brown water. It's been that way since then. She had two pieces of toast yesterday and a bit of rice and drank water all day.

Today she had two pieces of toast and water and that's it. Still water diarrhea.

Is there anything she should be drinking besides water? Is it okay to eat like she has been if she's been keeping it down? No vomiting except for the one time, just diarrhea.

I think if you have the stomach flu or food poisoning you're not supposed to take anything to stop the diarrhea, which she hasn't.

She had a bit of a fever yesterday, about 99.6.

Today she feels a bit better but still having diarrhea, but her fever is about 99.1 (her temp runs a bit higher than 98.6 normally anyway).

She has had a bit of a headache but I figure she hasn't eaten much so that might contribute to that.

Do you think she's okay to let it run its course or should she go to the doctor. I don't know if there's really any medication she can take. I was reading that sometimes antiobiotics can make you have diarrhea. She's only been having it since yesterday.

    Any advise is appreciated.

    Thank You.

Sounds like she has a touch of a viral bug. If it was food poisoning, she would have had horrible cramps and severe diarrhea. With her temp up slightly too it sounds like a bug. Tell her to eat very lighty until the loose stools have calmed down a bit. Rice and bananas are good for diarrhea. Tell her to drink a lot. Water is good as is juices. Let her rest. Tell her not to overdo it for the next couple of days and sleep if she can. When she starts to feel better some plain chicken broth or something like jello would be good. Also italian ice or ice pops. Hope she feels better some. Linda
