    Hi Jess,
I've been wondering how you are doing.

I did go to Mayo about 3 weeks ago. They want me to continue with the nifedipine ointment for 4-6 weeks, but try to apply some inside (not too far in ) instead all on outside. If I continue not to heal then Botox would be next step and cautery on spots that are not healing also a possiblity. He thought 2 spots are unhealed from hemmoroid removal and one deeper fissure at the posterior position, also from hemmoroid removal. Not sure why one is called fissure and others are called unhealed wounds..??

Overall, I guess I am doing a little better, but still not healed. There are still bad days mixed in with better days. Guess I will probably schedule botox in beginning of June if things don't improve alot soon.

Hope you are feeling much better and are recovered from the procedures you have had. Let me know how you feel.

Re: Need advice for fissures 6 weeks after Hemorrhoidectomy!!

    Thanks Jess,

I will keep CANASA in mind. I am still using the nifidipine and also vitamin e. The unhealed wounds are getting better. I have much less bleeding.

    Still using miralax and metamucil.

Sorry to hear you still have pain. Mine is slowly improving, I see a definite improvement. My pain was more like some sort of muscle spasms, it is hard to describe. I took 3-4 ibuprofens, but not sure if it really helped much and it was too hard on my stomach to take very long. Never tried aspirin. Tylenol definitely didn't help. Darvocet seemed to help also.

    Hoping you are better.

    Take care.

Re: Need advice for fissures 6 weeks after Hemorrhoidectomy!!

    Hey Jess,
Really hoping the botox helps you this time. Sounds like you had alot of unusual complications from a rubber band procedure! Wow, can't believe that it took out some muscle. No wonder you have pain. Glad to hear your fissure has healed, so you have less to deal with. I know it gets to be so frustrating when things won't heal.

I think ?? my fissure has healed but it is still tender. My unhealed wounds still bleed and are very tender and at times some pain. They are much better than they were especially since they don't trigger the muscle spasms. I am still using the nifidipine, I don't feel comfortable quitting that yet.

It's been 4 month since my surgery, although better, I still struggle with the unhealed bottom. Will this area ever be normal again?

    Hey, are you feeling better?

I am sorry, but I read your story, and was hoping for some encouraging news.

I have had two sphincterotomies. I felt much better after the second one, and think the fissure healed. However, my second surgery was complicated with an abscess forming at the unhealed wound, which had to be surgically drained in March. The abscess incision just healed and all was well until two weeks ago when the fissure re-formed!! I am so frustrated...using nitroglycerin again, but no real improvement...
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Lubr79,
Sorry to hear you are suffering from these problems , too.

After 5 months I finally feel like things are to the point of being healed. It is a very long and painful place to heal.

One of the most important things I do is to keep my bms soft and moving very regularly. If I slip a little, things seem to get worse. I am still taking miralax about every other day and I try to add some extra fiber in daily. I may add benefiber or other drink mix to my water and it really seems to help.

I know it is very frustrating, hoping you are feeling better since you started using the nitro again.

Best of luck to you! Not sure if I have any specific advice but to be very careful even after you are feeling better cause things can start up again.

    Take care.

Well, I am having bleeding again and some soreness, and spasms? It is frustrating, maybe the area is always going to be very sensitive to things. I had a bout of diahrrea then constipation. It is getting somewhat better but I am a little discouraged.

Re: Need advice for fissures 6 weeks after Hemorrhoidectomy!!

    Hi KCinderella,

I recently tuned into your chat as I on occasion post on this board. My story is similar to yours. I had intense pain for 6 months, did all the creams, softners etc....then did sphincterectomy....things just got worse....Two months later I did second surgery since doc said first one was incomplete. It has been 5 months since surgery #2. I don't have the same intense burning pain as prior but I am sore everyday...The original posterior fissure pinches and stings throughout the day and the lateral side is constantly sore. I don't know if this is the cut muscle from the operation or sometimes I think the lateral pain is an irritated hemoroid from all the work....My surgeon after 6 weeks pretty much said....pain is normal and deal with it...(easy for him). I was thinking of going back to see if the lateral pain is indeed a hemoroid and if it was to get it removed (at least I would only have one pain to deal with not two) BUT after reading your story I'm not sure....I thought the rubber ligation was a safe and easy thing compared to the hemroidoctmy???

Anyway its amazing how a fissure can change your life, people tell me not to focus on it or let it consume your life but its difficult when you are always sore!! After this year of suffering I don't even feel that I am the same person I was before.....but a shadow of my old self......I am grateful though that the intense daily burning pain is gone but Im still sore everyday...

Has your fissure pain finally eased?
What about the hemoroid spots? (I guess you wouldn't recommend this surgery?)

Take care and keep praying this awful phase in our lives will eventually pass.

Re: Need advice for fissures 6 weeks after Hemorrhoidectomy!!

    Hi Johnny,
It is so frustrating to have these butt problems. No one understands it unless they have gone through it also. Sorry you have to experience these problems. It is so frustrating.

I have had some good days and some bad. The skin in that area is maybe just thin now? The bleeding seems to start up easily if there is something out of the ordinary such as a little diahrrea or constipation. Guess we need to be diligent with our fiber and good diet.

I've talked to others who had the rubber band procedure for their hemmies that were safisfied but others have tender areas for a long time. I guess it depends partly on how well each of our bodies heal??? krazijess has had rubber band procedure I think, and he is still having problems.

I still regret I had the surgery, I didn't have these type of problems before, no pain, that's for sure. If you have surgery or rubber band procedure, I would make sure you find a specialist you are comfortable with. Unfortunately I did not research enough before surgery, I would definitely think the rubber band procedure would be the first thing to try before the surgery, I've heard it may take several tries to take care of them. If you have a tightness and pinching could that still be a fissure? Have you used any of the creams recently or don't you feel the need anymore?

My surgery is now over 6 months, I think the tissue is just thin there so I am not sure if it is ever going to heal completely. Things are definitely better than they were several months ago, so I guess there is still hope.

    Take care.

Re: Need advice for fissures 6 weeks after Hemorrhoidectomy!!

    Thanks Kinderella,

I no longer use any of the creams I used for the fissure such as Nifedipine or Diltiazem. The surgeon said don't bother you had the sphincterectomy so spasms should have stopped hence they are pointless. I sometimes still use Prep H, or wheatgrass on bad days to soothe area....Not sure if it does much for the posterior fissure area but it seems to help the lateral pain (which may or may not be a hemi or incision site?) Anyway although things are better then 5 months ago I still deal with pain daily...not as intense but uncomfortable and so inconsistent throughout the day that it causes so much fear and worry.

My family doc says often it takes over a year for surgical sites to feel good again. I hope this is true and the daily ups and downs will eventually resolve...

If docs do discover hemmi not sure if i'll take chance of another surgery?

Let me know if you have any major changes....

I think and pray for all of us sufferers daily

    Good luck
