how long did your colonoscopy prep take?

I'm scheduled for colonoscopy and endoscopy 7am Monday morning. The instructions say to start the prep at 3pm with dulcolax, 6pm with miralax, and then more miralax and dulcolax at 9pm.

Assuming this is a typical prep, how long do you think it will take to get everything out of my system? My system seems to run slower than other people's, and I don't want to be up all night running to the bathroom.

Does anyone remember how long your prep took from beginning to end (your last bathroom trip)?

I just had both tests. My prep was different though. Take your meds like prescribed and drink lots of fluids. The more water I drank the more I went to the bathroom. I started going about 15 minutes after I took the stuff. I also had crushed ice and water as much as I could drink. I also ate really light the day before and that helped too. Good luck.

Not sure what will happen for you - I had a different preps for both of my 2 colonoscopies. I remember the first one vividly. According to the directions, I should have started going at 7:00 pm and nothing happened until 11:30 pm!!! I was in such a panic all evening but eventually all was okay. I was also worried because I had to drink more stuff at 4:00 am and I was so afraid that I'd need to go while riding to the hospital. Fortunatley i made i tuntil i got there. I tell you this only because I think it is natural to have such worries. I hope all goes well for you. I'll be thinking of you. I have a colonoscopy on October 16 - it will be my third since February 05. Ugh!

With my last one i used Pico Salax. 2 packet(orange tasting powder) kit. Nothing else. Took first one 8:00am day before and second one at 5:00pm. Last bowel movement was about 10:00pm. Drinking lots of fluids is the key as already mentioned.

Re: how long did your colonoscopy prep take?

Thanks for the info everyone. I figure I'm about half way through. The Dulcolax got me going before I even started the drink mixture. And no cramps at all (yet). That's the first time in a long time I had good results with a laxative. So far so good.
