extreme tiredness before bowel movement

Hi All,
Just wondering if any one feels the same as i do.
I have been told some time ago that i have irritable bowel syndrome.
Recentlly i have noticed that i get really really tired before a bowel movement.
When I say tired i mean exhausted like falling asleep. Have to stop the car when driving, fall asleep while watching tv and this evening i even fell asleep while my hair dresser was blow drying my hair!!
This has happened alot in the past year or so i feel really tired, exhausted infact followed by a bowel movement and after that Im fine, full of energy.
Im scared that i may be overcome with tiredness while driving and embarassed
that i fell asleep at the hairdressers.
can any one help.

Thanks for that. I dont feel so alone. Yes I feel really tired before a bm. If I am driving sometimes I have to stop due to the tiredness. The sleepiness lasts about 15 20 mins but during that time its like my body shuts down and sleep is the only thing I can do.

Re: extreme tiredness before bowel movement

I've had the problem for a long time, maybe 15 years. During the day I'll feel very drowsy, fall asleep for 30-60, wake up, have a BM, and feel refreshed. When drowsy during the day I've thought of taking a laxative just to have a BM even when I don't recognize a need for a BM, but I've never taken a laxative for that reason. I mentioned this issue with a GI doctor, but he didn't have anything to say. For 6 or so years I've had GERD so I can't lie down for a while after eating, so this drowsiness can be a problem even when I'm not working.
