Constant Anal Fissures

I have had anal fissures on and off for a few years. I assumed they were hemorrhoids after googling about it and they wwould go away on thier own after a few days.

About 7 months ago I went to see the doctor because I kept having pain during and after bowel movements and it was not going away. I was diagnosed with anal fissures and since then they have not gone away.

After constantly prescribing me with glycerin and lactulose for every visit, I have now been referred to a specialist so I have to wait to hear from the hospital to find out when i will have an appointment.

I just want some advice on what to do until then.

I drink prune juice every night and I also drink 2-3 litres of water everyday so hard stools is not the problem. Sometimes when I feel the urge to go, I can already feel pain. Other days when the pain is not as bad, I feel pain as soon as the stool is about to come out.

So it feel as if the anus is very tight and once the first bit is through, there is hardly any pain.

Is it possible that my anus has tightened so much that this is why my fissures are not healing because the stools are too big to pass through?

I hope Im not being gross but the doctor didnt seem to understand either. He kept asking if Im constipated or if I have hard stools . They are not hard though, they are just hard to get out!

Please help!
I am 24 year old female. I am fairly healthy. I go to the gym 4 times a week so I do not understand why I am not healing.

I also take Vitamin C, Zinc and Cod liver oil daily.

Any other suggestions please?

Re: Constant Anal Fissures

I know your pain! I suffered from an anal fissure for about two whole months (if not longer). I searched the internet daily and tried everything you can think of to help me heal! Every time I would use the toilet, I would feel the fissure on my left side tear. It would be just a little bright red blood most of the time, but once or twice the toilet would look as if it were full of blood. The one thing most people don't understand is that when you up your fiber intake, you also need to up your water intake. Fiber bulks up your feces, it doesn't soften it. Both fiber and water are a big help, but I found the only thing that has ever helped me is Miralax. I'm a 24 year old female and I weigh about 140. The cap is the measuring spoon and I only fill it about halfway. In about a week my anal fissure was healed! I've been taking the Miralax for about 3 weeks now. It says it's okay for long-term use, but I am thinkning about weaning myself off of it. I don't want to take it for the rest of my life! It's completely tasteless and dissolves completely in anything! I highly recommend it! Good luck everyone
