Unknown "string" object in poo?

For the past week or so, I've been pooing for Britain. It originally started off as quite soft, diarrhea-like poop as if I'd just eaten a jar of chilis (and I had actually eaten quite a lot of spicey food throughout the week). As the week has progressed, my stools have become regular - they're not soft, I don't get any kind of belly sensations you get when you have diarrhea, but the pooing has stayed consistent, and just before when I was using toilet roll I looked at the roll afterwards and noticed a string like...substance. At first I thought it was just leftover poop, but I touched it and the poop would wipe off, revealing what looked like some kind of...vegetable-like string. I didn't think it was a worm because I know what they look like, and it was solid and flat.

Can anyone think what might be wrong with me...? Could it have been undigested food? I can't think of anything I've eaten that could fit the bill!

The string like stuff may be mucus coming from the bowel. It will look like thick strings of egg white-like jelly, and is produced by the bowel membrane when the bowel is irritated or inflamed, which is probably why you had the diarrhea. If it doesn't go away in a week or is accompanied by blood, you should see your Dr.
