Lymphocytic Colitis
I have been experiencing diarrhea for about 5 years on and off each time for 4-5 weeks. Finally I got a better PCP and saw a GI specialist. I was tested for pancreatic cancer and cleared (whew!). The diagnosis was microcellular or lymphocytic colitis. So now I am trying to reorder my lifestyle and diet.
I usually enjoy vigorous exercise about 3-4 times a week, burning 2,000 to 2,400 calories an hour for a full hour before going to weights, gymnastics and martial arts exercises. I am an old mixed method and no rules fighter so I like an aggressive routine including punching a steel girder to keep my knuckles tough.
On the other hand I have type 1 diabetes and have had a MI that required 3 stents. Since then I have been re-stented once and had a quadruple angioplasty recently (in Saudi Arabia). Only now am I learning how bad too much insulin and too much carbohydrates are for my vascular health.
I split my Lantus in halves now and reduced the dose to cover fasting only then bolus for each meal. With LC now I am going to cut down on fiber, spicy food, and other risky foods. I am also going to start eating smaller more frequent meals, a habit I had about 18 years ago I was forced to change with remarriage.
My life has been high stress as well. I am a Chemical and Mechanical Engineer and an executive (Chief Commercial Officer) of a company that builds oil refineries and alternative energy power plants. I have travelled all over the world fro 38 years, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, France, Spain, Mexico, etc. and frequently have gotten sick, malaria, amoebic dysentery, dengue fever so I told myself that my symptoms were traveler's diarrhea.
