Exclamation varying symptoms, need honest advice...

Hi, I am a 33 yr old mum of two girls, and a baby boy who sadly died aged 6 weeks from strepptococcalB meningitis. I'll try and keep this to the point...
I suffered a seizure aprox one week ago whilst settling into sleep, it started as a pressure in the chest area and around the heart, like a heavy weight placed on the chest, this spread to a mild dull pain through my left shoulder and upper arm. Then an awareness of an extremely erratic heart beat, whilst the crushing feeling on the chest grew stronger, the breathing became harder and more laboured, though not necessarily faster or shallower.
By this stage, I had developed a very strong instinct that if i were to lose consciousness, there was a strong likeli-hood that life would never be the same again.... its hard to explain. So I fought the growing feeling of passing out, to keep myself awake, and in the meantime awoke my partner, and calmly told him to call an ambulance. to stop myself from 'going' as i call it, i tried to keep moving, lying down, then sitting up etc. Then whilst in the lying position, i started to feel paralysis spreadin over my face , my eyes were open, and my left eyelid was contorted and stretched rigid, the right eye alot less so. My mouth was also paralysed and rigid.. to the point i could not speak. The paralysis then spread through my left arm to the hand which contorted upwards, again rigid paralysis. The journey of th paralysis continued up the left leg, down the right arm with the hand in the same contorted fashion. There was slight paralysis of the centre of the body, but the left side of the body definately being worst affected.
I forgot , before the onset of the paralysis, my body had begun to tremble and shake as if suffering from extreme cold.
In total, the whole process lasted about 45mins, the actual paralysis lasting around 25mins, as witnessed and verified by my partner.
When the paramedics arrived, he tlked me out of the seizure, and told me ' to take a holiday, its a panic attack'! Not one piece of equipment came out of their bag, no blood pressure, temprature, not even my pulse. nothing. the only thing he took out the whole time he attended to me was a pen, to sign the form with. The only thing enterd on this sheet was 'panic attack', no mention of seizure, though my partner was never asked how long i had been in this paralised state, either.
Now, since researching 'panic attacks', i realise that there is little or no mention of seizures lasting longer than 5-10mins, and usually only affecting hands and feet.
So, as you can guess, i am a little sceptical.
Other possible symptoms that this may not have been a panic attack that i have experienced over the last 2 years or so, all of which pertains to the left aside of the body, unless otherwise stated, are...
visual disturbance (scrambled, jumbled, chaotic sight, total inability to see), lasting around 15mins.
    visual floating wiggling neon zig-zags
headaches, becoming more frequent and less responsive to pain-killers. Seem to be nondescript, a bit like a dull heavyness, similar to a dehydration headache.
A localised feeling of swelling and tenderness of the lower left knobbley bit of the back of the head.
swollen gland only on left side of throat.
swollen lymph glands under both arms.
When trying to rest or sleep (this has only happened 3 times), a drip drip drip drip, like a tap thats not been turnred off properly, inside the head with a definte sensation of dripping onto the skull, which when i turned over, at first seemed to stop, then returned with harder faster tapping ,dripping sensation. This only happened again recently. Approx 2 nights after seizure.
There is one more thing, that may or may not be related. My Teeth.
I have always had a small gap between my top and bottom front two teeth.A horizontal gap, not a vertical one, but in the last 5 years or so, this has spread at an alarming rate right round to the molars, I now have no teeth that make contact from the molars forward, and th molars are now starting to separate on the inside of the mouth, To make it easier to imagine, clench your teeth and imagine your mouth is open all the way to the molars at the back, their 1st point of contact. This is not a wisdom teeth problem... they started through abnormally young at 15, and were completely surfaced by 19yrs old , still with plenty of room in mouth. This distortion of mouth, and the growing rapidity, of the spreading gape.. is frightning, and baffling to say the least.
I am sooooo sorry about the length of this post, I just had to make sure i remembered the important stuff... lol.
I am hoping there will be plenty of advice for me, but honest advice only please, I have an appointment with doc on tues morn, just wanted to make sure i don't get the brush off. Thanks guys! PHeeeeewww!!!!

Hi! Some of the symptoms you mentioned are migraine or migraine related. I get the zig zag lines and the other visual symptoms you described. You can even get these visual symptoms without the headache. I don't know about your other symptoms, they sound pretty alarming. You should definetely see a doctor, not the ER, who will probably refer you to a neurologist. Sometimes alarming symptoms turn out to be not so alarming once you find out why they are happening. Good luck!

    Hi there...
Your post stood out to me, since I have many of the same symptoms you describe. I am so sorry for the loss of your son...first and foremost.

While first reading your post, I was thinking that you may have been having a panic attack. I am familiar with them and have also suffered from them. They are very similiar to what you describe. I have had them so bad I am convinced that I am dying...going blind, having a heart attack, and some muscle weakness that feels like I am paralyzed. I have had them last up to 15 -20 minutes...however long it takes me to convince myself that I am just having a panic attack. The reason I am writing is because like you, I have frequent headaches. Dull aches that are always left sided and accompanied, occasionally by visual disturbances such as dark spots or kaleidascope vision. Very scary....and usually accompanied by a panic attack. Your description of the dehydration headache is exactly what I experience. The scariest thing is the vision problems. For the past two weeks I have had a headache dull ache..usually slightly alliviated by advil migrane or midrin (prescription). I have had headaches for about 5 years now and have had an ct scan and mri. They showed that I had a cyst in one of my sinuses and I needed to have surgery. After the surgery I felt better but still had slight headaches. Nothing like they were. I am convinced that I have a brain tumor or something really wrong with me now. At this moment I am headache free but may wake up with in the morning, and feeling stuffed up. I dont know what it is. Sometimes I head a "rushing" noise like blood flowing through my neck..accompanied by a slight headache. AND ....I have the drip drip drip when I lay down to go to sleep. I turn over and I hear it on the other side. Then I start to panic....the way I have dealt with this is to fall asleep on my back...you wont hear it then. My doctor who did the surgery said that that was post nasal drip....but when I stand up I dont have a runny nose or anything...I dont get it. Well I just wanted to tell you that I am sharing many of your symptoms...feel free to write back and let me know how you are doing....I hope better! Take care and god bless!

    Susisu -

I am sorry for the loss of your baby. Please take care of yourself and treat yourself with care.

I was just recently diagnosed with Lyme disease and two tick borne coinfections called Babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis. These bacterial infections can cause all kinds of Central Nervous System issues. They have been known to cause paralysis in some people. These infections can cross the placenta as well.

I have had migraines since I was 16 with what they call "Aura" - I have experienced numbness that jumps from my face to my hands. The headaches I have had with Lyme and coinfections has been a low grade dull ache, especially behind my eyes at times. I also would get numbness and tingling in my skull.

I also experienced the worst swollen glands of my life on the right side of my neck. They were so bad that you could see them. Those went away and then I started to have severe digestive problems...lost 15 lbs. in three weeks. Then that subsided but has never gotten back to normal. I have severe fatigue and visual disturbances too. I would get double vision sometimes...as well my right eye would spasm intermittently. I can't think straight and all of this has worsened on the antibiotic therapy. This is expected...you have to get worse to get better when you have chronic lyme.

In the last 6 months I have experienced intense anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia that cycles with flare ups of the infection. My legs feel very heavy at times since I have started taking an antibiotic to treat the infections. Sometimes I feel like I may never move them again. Have you been taking antibiotics lately?

I also could no longer drink caffeine without feeling EXTREMELY jumpy. I would drink two sips of wine and the room would start spinning. As well, others have said that medications no longer work the way they used to when the have lyme...typically they become highly sensitive or the drug just doesn't work anymore.

Please take the time to check out the lyme disease board and see if you can relate. Symtpoms that go with lyme and coinfections do differ from person to person but there tends to be some that everyone experiences. I don't remember being bitten by a tick, nor did I have a bull's eye rash. I started having sluggish circulation, a drop in body temperature, and lower blood pressure when I started to recognize symptoms. It was not easy getting diagnosed. I had to see a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor and go through blood tests that used IgeneX standards. I saw 15+ doctors and had numerous blood tests over six months before we finally found it. By then I was having chest pains, heart palpitations, and hair loss.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. I am so sorry that you were treated with such disrespect by the paramedics.

    Take care,
    -ncgirl88
